What items should I buy?
I don't plan on having a huge shower and I want to start getting my baby items so we are not overwhelmed when baby comes. What are some things I should start buying?
I was thinking:
Baby sling/bjorn
diapers
bouncy seat

I would wait until after your shower to buy anything. You never know what you're going to get or will have to return (that you can exchange for what you want).

Pack and Play, ointments, baby wash, onsies, PJs, changing table pad, baby monitor, swing, bottles (you do not need a sterilizer - you can boil the bottles).

ITA. You will be surprised how generous people can be. If you are worried about the cost associated, then put money on the side each week so that after your shower you won't have feel it as much.
