What jobs are "safe" in this economy?
Is it healthcare only? I am trying to decide if I neeed to get back into the medical field or go back into marketing/administrative work.

healthcare is recession proof. Gov't jobs are also pretty safe.

Healthcare is very strong right now. Some areas of information technology are also thriving.
Personally and professionally speaking, marketing may not be the best thing to focus on right now. It truly depends on what area you are specifically talking about within marketing.

Definitely healthcare. While I never really love my job I am glad I chose the field I did.

I am in somewhat of a marketing field and it is pretty touch and go right now. Many large companies ar cutting their ad budgets, or re-directing their resources. We are awaiting the completion of our signed annual contracts from our bigger clients to determine where we stand.

I am in the administrative/social work end of healthcare and feel my job/field is always safe.
You will never be rich "financially" or sometimes have to work a job you are not 100% crazy about, but at least you will be employed!!

I work for the state and my job is utterly secure, though there is a hiring freeze right now so positions that are empty are not being filled.

Healthcare is truly the way to go. I am a speech-language pathologist. I work for the state (public schools) and am in healthcare and feel completely secure.

health care is the safest way to go, but they also suffer.
our clinic is closing down, we are base in Manhattan, but we have not been making our goal. People are not working so they don't have health insurance to get the services that they need.

Some people who work in the medicaid office have been downsized as well.
My brother's psychiatrist has been let go from her group. They had two and they can only afford one now. They accept medicaid.
