Does anyone own a house in Queens?
If so, where is it and do you like the area?

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
A co-op, not a house, but we're in Little Neck and we love it. Before Little Neck, DH and I rented in Forest Hills (loved it!) and before that he lived at home with his mom in Middle Village and I lived on my own in Kew Gardens. Both of us were born and pretty much raised in Queens (he his whole life, me all but junior high and high school). I'm a big fan . If we could afford a house in the areas we'd want to live in, we would absolutely stay in Queens. Unfortunately, it's not happening so we'll be moving out of state after we sell this co-op (~5 yrs).

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
I own a house in Forest Hills. I love the area and taxes but our house is on the market because we want better schools for our son. My Dh and I grew up in Queens. I say school wise to look in Bayside and Whitestone.

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
We live in a house in Middle Village right now. I grew up in Bayside. I would def recommend Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Whitestone, Forest Hills..There are lot of nice neighborhoods, but those are my favs...

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
I didn't own, but I lived in Whitestone for many years and loved it (and still miss many things about it!) It's residential but the commute to Manhattan is easy, and the location is great- there are a few nice parks with great water and bridge views.
I liked Bayside a lot too.

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
I grew up in Queens. We currently own in Suffolk County, but plan on trying to move to Queens by the end of next year. Unfortunately we will probably be going from a house to a condo, but we love Queens. We are looking in the areas of Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston...
ETA: Also will be looking in Fresh Meadows

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
FH does, a condo in Howard Beach - the Lindenwood section. The area is wonderful, the homes are beautiful and very well kept. Howard Beach has a reputation like Forest Hills (One of the best queens locations & safest.) His is a 1BR completely re-done condo w/ balcony in a nice elevator bldg and we are about to put it on the market. FM me if you want info - its a beatuy.

We live in Whitestone (Beechhurst) and we looooove it. We come from Western Suffolk (Huntington/Northport) and we are loving the area.
Are you near Le Havre?

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
I rent in Queens. I've lived within a 10 block radius my entire life. Unfortunatley, I live in Elmhurst and it's not a great area. But for now it's fine because rent is affordable.
If I could afford to buy in Queens, I would consider Middle Village, Whitestone, Douglaston or Little Neck. The only downside is that you do not get much property in Queens.

Re: Does anyone own a house in Queens?
THanks everyone for your input, very helpful!
I'm really fantasizing more than anything else, but DH and I will be moving back to the States (hopefully early 2008) and I'm trying to plan out where we're going to live and what we'll be able to afford when - whether that means we'll need to rent for a bit, or buy a condo or co-op right away and then sell to buy a house after a year or two, or if we'll be able to afford a house right away.
Just dreaming!
