What kind of supermarket shopper are you?

So there are no good supermarkets in my neighbourhood, but if I am willing to drive 5-10 miles, there are tons of good supermarkets, so one week I go to Asda, one week to Tesco, another week I go to Morrisions and in between, I top up at Waitrose (Now I know you won't know these names...but they make the story better) Now Morrisions has a good butcher and a great fishmonger, Asda has cheap 2 for 1 deals and good clothes, Tesco sometimes has better, higher end items, and Waitrose, well Waitrose is the Rolls Royce of Supermarkets. OMG and I forgot Costco for American goods, Hot Dogs, Cakes, Ziploc bags, Sponges and some other bit and bobs.

So how do you shop? Are you loyal to one supermarket? Do you go out of your way to drive to another supermarket? Do you prefer one store brand to another?

Are you a supermarket ho like me???

I pretty much only shop at King Kullen since it's the only one local. I don't have the patience to drive 20 mins to get to another store.

My mom likes to go to 3 supermarkets...not me. I like to go to one and that's it! Mostly Stop and Shop.

I am usually picky about where I get my meat from and prefer to buy it from either a butcher or Fresh Direct. Cold cuts MUST be Boars Head. I usually by fresh produce from the local fruit stands by my house. As for boxed or packaged grocery type stuff, I will usually buy it at the local supermarket.

Cold cuts/meats and veggies I get from the italian store. Everything else I get from Pathmark. It's the only nice supermarket around my area.

I mostly shop at Stop N' Shop and if we are low on milk or bread then a 5 min stop a 7-11 will do because a 5 min stop never can happen in a giant supermarket.

I lived walking distance from tesco and loved that store. I always thought they were cheaper than Sainsburys and safeway. When Asda opened I always went there because they had a clothing section, movie and cd section and a bank all in one easy trip.
I was always mad that this guy was not working.

Re: What kind of supermarket shopper are you?

We have a Waldbaums, 2 Pathmarks, a King Kullen and a Stop and Shop within a mile of each other. When we have to do big shopping, we try our best to go to the one market that has the most sales on the big items and hit the others on the way back home. I cannot and will not spend $4.00-$5.00 for a pound of butter when I can spend $2 if I just go down the block.

We get email notifications of store circulars and anticipate when the sales are coming. Sometimes some stores start their sales on different days and if we wait one day, we save a chunk of change. Last year, we saved close to $1K between all of the markets with coupons and scanning our tags at the checkout.

I am sure this will chance for the sake of convenience when we have children, but for now, we have to do our best to save money when we can.

I shop wherever the best deal is! But I'm surrounded by about 10 different grocery stores. It's realy a little ridiculous.

I go to Stop & Shop once a week for a big shop and sometimes during the week for salad or fruit/veg. Any special meat or chicken I get at Storks meat store.

I go to Target for cat food - it is soooo much cheaper there. And I go to Costco for kitty litter, paper towels, t-paper and toothpasteChat Icon

I shop at Target for household goods and then just one supermarket for everything else (unless there are really good sales elsewhere)

Re: What kind of supermarket shopper are you?

Before we had the baby, we were all over shoppers. Wherever we were, we would stop to shop. We would go to like 4 different supermarkets a week. Plus run to the small local one for staples.

Now since the baby, we make it a point to go to pathmark on sunday nights. We stock up for the week. I buy according to their sales for that week. When we run out of milk or need something that we have forgotten, I run to the small store up the block.
