What kind of SUV should I get?
I currently have a 2004 Ford Explorer...and while there is nothing wrong with it, I am getting a new car (probably lease) because I want to have something new for when the baby arrives.
I really like the Chrysler Pacifica, and I like the newer Ford Explorer. Ideally, I would like something that has the 3rd row, in case we need to take my step-daughter and her friends somewhere being that the carseat would be stationary, we would need somewhere for them to sit.
I would like to keep the payment under or as close to $400/month as possible. So...what do you suggest?

I have a Saturn Vue. Although I like it, I have heard great things about the Honda Pilot. I also think it can have another row of seats. Good luck!

i love my pathfinder as well. not too fond of the newer models though. mine is a 2001.

I'm not a fan of the pathfinder for some reason. DH wants me to stay with an American car, but I just want something that is safe, looks nice and won't kill me on gas.

Jeep Laredo has a nice one out- I might get that when mylease is up in Oct.Have the Pathfinder and Love it- but its a 2003. I don't like the newer models...

The pacifica has gotten bad reviews i think a big problem was blind spots

The Jeep Commander has a 3rd row - though it might be a very small 3rd row, not 100% sure (I like the look of this SUV, however!)

I love Jeeps and think they are generally a reliable vehicle (though not always the best on mileage, but what SUV really is these days)

what about the new ford freestlye? that will probubly me next car, i love my explorer but the freestyle is the same but lower to the ground good for loasding babies and strollers.... it reminds me of the pacifica

If you are even remotely considering the Pacifica... I would get it.
I drove one for a few days... nice ride. But most importantly... right now you can get a 0% 5yr loan through Chrysler on all new Pacificas.
People really underestimate the importance of a free loan (you save thousands in interest). I wouldn't lease when you can get this deal.

Well...we drove when when we were in Florida last summer and I loved it...which is why I want one. I will definitely have to look into the 0% financing....thanks.

Oh damm.... I think the 0% financing deals ended on March 31st. 
They now give you 2500 cash back plus an extra $1000 cash back if you finance through them. Not a bad deal.
The Jeeps are a good deal too. The Commander looks real nice. Check out the Liberty too. My wife has a Liberty and she loves it.
If you need a recommendation for a Chrysler/Jeep dealer... I have good relations with the dealer by me.  Send me a FM and I can put in a good word for you.

If you are looking for a NJ dealer... check out Warnock in East Hannover. They have a HUGE inventory so its very likely you will find a car equipped exactly the way you want it. Buying off their lot saves you money.
This is how you should buy your car. Look through their inventory online... find a jeep that is optioned exactly the way you want it (color too). Write down their stock number.
Then send them a fax (to the sales manager) and say you are interested in stock number XXXXX... what is the lowest price you will sell this vechicle at to get me in to the dealership for a quick sale.

My sister has a new Ford Explorer witht he third row seating, she loves it! It is really comfy and I would recommend it. We have a Ford Escape and have had 0 problems.

Also-when I go to lease my cars (and I've leased a ton of them over the years) I go to edmunds.com and price them out. They give you retail, invoice and any dealer incentives that are available making the car price lower.
Negotiate off of a price, not a monthly payment. That's how dealers get people..also no money down on the lease at all..just first, taxes and registration if you have to.

I had the Explorer, wasnt thrilled with it, too many problems with the transmission (we got it brand new and only had it 3 years). DH bought me the Honda Pilot and its a dream! Love that car, 3 row folds flat down and has lots of leg room. Its got such a smooth ride too.
