What medicines should I have in the house for when we arrive home with baby?

I registered for Tylenol, Orajel, etc., but didn't get any of them at my showers.

What medicines should I have in the house for when we arrive home? I don't want him to get a fever and us not be prepared. Are you getting the Tylenol Infant concentrated drops? Baby Orajel? Any others? Chat Icon

I'm all set with his toiletries. Chat Icon But it's the meds I am concerned about...I think I need to make a trip today to pick some up.

yep- thats the one (and I love the dye free meds- no mess!)

Honestly- I dont know if the baby has to be a certain age/weight to use the tylenol- but you wouldnt use anything w/o the Dr's consent 1st anyway..

Mylicon on the other hand you can use from day 1 and in every bottle if needed!!! Def. a great thing to have on hand!

We also had saline drops and an aspirator in addition to the mylicon and tylenol.

We started using mylicon drops around 2 weeks when Kaydyn started getting very uncomfortable at feedings and on the reccomendation of our ped we started using them in every bottle.

at the newborn class we took on Friday, they suggested only:

tylenol (the infant one)
pedialyte
saline nasal drops

and that's it. they didn't even suggest mylicon - but we have that already.

I would have on hand Infant Tylenol, Mylicon, saline spray or drops.Mylicon you can use from day one, Infant Tylenol should not be used before the baby is 6 months old, unless directed by your MD. All infant medications are based on weight. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What medicines should I have in the house for when we arrive home with baby?

I didn't have anything in the house before DS was born. Chat Icon My hospital gave me the saline drops and I bought the infant Tylenol after his first pediatrician appointment. I don't have Mylicon drops though a lot of people seem to use them.

I've heard that there are some risks with baby orajel. When DS is uncomfortable from teething, I use Hyland's teething tablets.

Yeah, my car seat isn't installed, I don't have a going home outfit picked out, but with 2 weeks to go I started randomly freaking out about medicines! Chat Icon

I bought some of the Tylenol, Mylicon, and saline drops.

Same here. I bought the concentrated ones posted above after DS's first round of shots and that was the first time he got them b/c he developed a fever from them (10 wks).

My ped said not to use anything for teething - just rub the gums with a gauze or frozen waschcloth...

You'll be fine. Chat Icon DH installed the car seat in his car and had it inspected 2 days before my induction. He didn't install the car seat in my car until a few weeks after DS was born.

You're getting so close!
