What medicines to keep on hand with a newborn?

I'm having my first baby in a few weeks and have no baby medicine or anything in the house. I registered for a first aid kit, but besides that, what do I need?

1st few weeks you only need infant tylenol - you can't give motrin until 6 months so you don't need that right away. You might have to get generic not sure what is out now after the recall.

Some people give mylecon or other medicine for gas - but we never used it.

Really you only need tylenol- in case of a fever - you don't generally give newborn medications - some peds will recommend a vitamin called Tri-vi-sol - if you breastfeed. - But your ped will tell you if you need that so I don't think you have to have that on hand.

Ask your ped too cause mine will not allow DS to have benedryl at 7 months old.

Here is my list (my son was born during the height of cold/flu season)

-generic tylenol
-generic motrin
-little noses saline drops (do not get nose drops with any kind of decongestant)
-pedilyte CLEAR
-if you have a humidifier that you can put vapor in, get the vapor
-mylicon drops (OMG, such a life saver when you LO is crawling out of their skin from gas pains)
-Triple Paste in the event of a diaper rash
-Aquaphor and vasaline
-make sure you have a good anal thermometer and probe covers if needed
