What should I turn this extra room into?
So I have this room that is right infront of kitchen (it was orginally the dining room, but we moved the dining room into another room because it is a lot bigger) and we are either thinking of knocking down the wall where their are no cabinets and making it a large EIK or still knock it down and make it a den for the kids. Our livingroom is really more of a family room and has the kids toys in their. Here are some pictures (please don't mind the mess) So what do you guys think we should do? I want to say the room is about 13'x13' in size
1.) the wall between the rooms 2.) view of the wall from opposite end of kitchen

Re: What should I turn this extra room into?
I would make it a den for the kids for their toys, TV, homework & keep the living room more for the adults.

I would knock that wall down and make it one big area. You can still make it a den but you could also put a desk in there for homework, a computer, etc.

I would say an office but better yet you can put the kids toys in there and be able to watch them while your cooking.

You should make it a playroom for the kids and when you no longer have little ones, you can knock down the wall and extend the kitchen...that's what I would do!

definitly knock the wall down. not only would it increase the space but allow for better traffic flow to the stairs.

I agree - I would make it an office/den/play room. So you can keep an eye on them when your in the kitchen!

I have another set of stairs so that I think I am ok with.
Now the other problem with knocking down the wall is that it is supporting. So even though the wall would come down their would still be a poll for support. I am leaning towards playroom too. Do you think I should put a tv and couch in there too? I don't think I need to but DH does. Man, I knew this house was to big for us

I should also add this...In the first picture right next to the alarm key pad their is down and that leads to the basement. The basement is small and perfect for a playroom. I just don't think a 2 year old ok down their by themselves. It is already carpeted and has cable access with a small window.

You could just make the doorway a double sized door way. You would really open the area that way. I would use it as a playroom for now. Even though the basement is setup for a playroom already your child is too young to leave down there now. You can use the basement in a few years when they are older and can be down there by themselves and then they can play and make noise down there. Then the playroom upstairs could turn into a den or a larger kitchen or just a sitting room. I guess it all depends on the rest of your house - do you need another TV and couch in the playroom? I might put one, this way you can still use it for another place to sit and watch TV. GL!
