What size clothes to first buy (NB or 3-6 mos)

Baby Bargains suggests we buy the 3-6 month clothing rather than newborn, is that what everyone else did? Is it okay if the clothes is slightly larger?

I want to make sure my baby isn't naked for the first week or so

I would buy 0-3 mths and a few newborn onsies.

not 3-6, I would buy plenty of 0-3.

i had about 4 newborn feety PJS and a few maybe 5 oneies in newborn.. i agree with having mostly 0-3 ... 3-6 will be gigantic on a newborn- but dont worry to much once the baby comes you will be addicting to buying outfits everywhere you go lol

I didn't buy any newborn, but plenty of people gifted us newborn clothes when DS was born. I did start off with a bit of 0-3 and 3-6. DS was born big (9lbs 3oz) so I feel like by the time he was 8 weeks old we were starting the 3-6 month clothing.

This time I may do some newborn since we are having twins and twins are known to be born on the smaller side.

I have 3 long-sleeve NB onesies and one sleeper outfit someone gave us. I have a few sleeping gowns that can be used for a little while that aren't age specific, as well as some sleep sacs and swaddler blankets. I'm not really worried about her being naked... plus she's already over 6 lbs so I'm not too worried about her being just a little bit smaller than her clothing at first.

I have a lot of 3-6 month clothing, and several 0-3 so I think we'll be ok. We'll see soon! I do laundry 3 days a week already just for the two of us, so I'm not worried about having to do it more. Baby clothes are tiny so they'll fit in the wash!

I also have her coming home outfit, which is a onesie, pants, and a track jacket sort of thing (if that makes sense). I think I have two pairs of NB pants too but those don't seem like they'll be all that useful.

Do you mean 0-3? My twins were in NB for a very long time, but they were small when they were born. For this baby I've bought a couple of 0-3 things, will buy some newborn too, but won't really buy much until she is born and I know what she is fitting into.

I would have a few newborn and 0-3. My dd was in newborn until she was almost 3months old! You just never know..

For some reason I thought NB was 0-3, so much to learn!!

Okay, good to know that I shouldn't be going out getting 3-6, which is what worried me when I was reading the baby bargains book last night.

DS was 8lbs 11oz and he wore newborn for the first month and then we moved into 0-3m.

I would buy mostly 0-3, but have a few newborn on hand. There isn't a whole lot on consistency in baby sizng and you'll find that some 0-3m are really huge on a newborn.

I regret not having any 0-3 months or NB clothing. DS came home from the hospital around 6.10 and was SWIMING in 3 month clothing.
I had to go out and buy a bunch.
Save yourself the trouble and get a few onesies and t-shirts.

I had a lot of 0-3 with DS and wound up getting a few newborn outfits but honestly they do grow out of them REALLY quick.

I would buy 0-3 .My child was over 9lbs , so the NB stuff never fit . I did get TONS of clothes from family, co-workers and friends so I ended up exchanging later for 3-6 just because I had so much.

my friend had a 9.5 lb baby... the 0-3 clothes were useless to her... dont buy too much of any size

my dd is 6 weeks old.

was born 8lbs 10 oz and she wore NB for the first 3 weeks then switched over to 0-3. its crazy how quick they grow!

if i were u i would buy like 5 pairs of nb pjs and onsies...

we got a ridiculous amount of clothing gifts so you probably dont need to buy much!

my DS was in NB clothes for about 2 months so I would definitely get a few just in case and a lot of 0-3...3-6 would be huge on a newborn

I have a variety. Mostly 0-3 months, some NB, and some 3-6 months

My first DD was 8 lbs 7 oz and wore newborn sized clothing for about 5 weeks. My new DD is almost 3 weeks old and about 8 pounds and still in newborn clothes and newborn sized diapers.
I would definitely get a few newborn clothes and 0-3 month size as well.

I'll be getting a variety. Both my brother and I went straight into 3-6 and 6-9 when we were born...but we were 11lbs 1 oz 22 inches and 11lbs 6oz 22.5 inches (poor Mom )...so I will be ready for anything

0-3...DD was an average size baby at 6lbs 10 oz she was in nb size for two weeks!!!

Okay, looks like everyone agrees to buy only a few newborn and mostly 0-3 and 3-6. Back to shopping for me!!
