What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

DS is measuring about 5 and a half pounds at 33weeks... 84th percentile. He's also apparently going to be long.

DH was almost 10 pounds when he was born. He is now 6'2". I'm 5'6" and was 7lbs11oz at birth.

I'm torn between buying newborn size or 0-3 months for his take home outfit. I bought a cute one yesterday with the intention of getting 0-3 months, but misread the label and bought newborn instead.

Most outfits show newborn size up to 9 pounds, so we might be right on the cusp.

DH and I are both tall, my last growth sono showed DS#1 to weigh about 8.6 pounds, I really thought I was going to have a 10 pound baby! I bought size 0-3 for DS's outfit. Well DS was born 7lbs 5oz but was pretty long. His little outfit was very big on him, and the next week I had to go out and buy a whole bunch of newborn size stuff! I would go with newborn size.

I think I'm going to bring one of each (newborn and 0-3). We were both big babies (over 9 lbs), and tall.

I am thinking of buying two of the same outfit and returning the size I don't need.

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

Ds was born at 8lbs 6oz. We got size 0-3...we felt that newborn clothes would cut it too close and it did.

For this DS I'll buy him 0-3 also.

Both my DSs were ~5.5 at the same time and were both born at 10+ pounds. DH and I were both 8+ and my dad was 10+. DH is 6'2 and I am 5'7. NB didn't fit on either. I tried to put one on, but it wasn't happening. 0-3 fit for about 2 weeks.

I would go with 0-3 if you already know he is a big boy Chat Icon

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

it also depends on the brand. DS2 is going to be wearing DS1's outfit - it's Ralph Lauren size 3m. I find RL to run very small.
eta: DS1 was born 7lb14oz

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

When I had DS, the last growth sono we had estimated him at 9lbs. I brought a short sleeve outfit and a long sleeve outfit. I think both were 0-3 months. He ended up only being 8lbs 5oz and the outfit we put on him was huge. I like Carters, so this time I will be bringing a newborn outfit as well as a 3mo outfit... I agree with many of the OP, bring two!

For the coming home outfit- newborn will be fine. For something he'll wear a bunch, I'd go 0-3.

DS was 8.6 and went home swimming in a 0-3.

I would probably get one of each. But I always like to play it safe.

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

If the purpose is to be just a take home outfit do newborn.....it'll be fine, but if you plan to use it as part of his wardrobe get both newborn and 0-3. I think that the majority of babies will come home in nb, well as long as Waterspout isn't carrying themChat Icon

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

DD was 8lb 11 oz and her 3 month coming home outfit was gigantic on her. But I also think it depends on the brand and how they run size wise.

I brought NB. DD is 9 wks and she is still wearing NB clothes and diapers!! You could always bring one outfit in each size just in case.

Re: What size should I get for DS's take home outfit?

DS was 7lbs 11oz and 21 inches. I had a newborn outfit and it was big on him. Remember they loose a little weight after they are born. DS went home at 7lbs 3 oz.

DS wore NB clothes for about 3 weeks. Oh and my DH was 9lbs when born.

Thanks!
