I saw that, I felt so bad for her. She was working day and night, she must be so exhausted all the time.

Houston. She drives a school bus during the day, at night she drives a mosquito patrol truck, she works at Texas Stadium part time, drives a limo on weekends and then part time in an office. And she's still living paycheck to paycheck b/c she has a dd in college and that's a big part of her expenses.
She's thinking of adding another job!
They have the video on the GMA website It's called "One Woman's Struggle"

At least she is doing what she needs to do, which is a lot more than other people. I applaud her strength and sense of responsibility. It is so hard for everyone nowadays.

i don't want to sound mean... but why isn't the kid in college helping to pay her way through school?????
yes, times are tough, and i do applaud this woman's sense of responsibility... but what about teaching her kid some responsibility?

I was just thinking this. There is no way I would allow my Mom to work 5 jobs to help put me through college.
That woman has some strength though. You have to give her credit.

just my two cents I was thinking the same thing! my parents didn't have any money for us for college so we paid our own way. I mean its great and all that she really wants to provide for her daughter, but with 5 jobs and driving with no sleep isn't going to keep her around long enough to see her daughter graduate!
On a side note, the today show had a thing on about the same topic and how people on perscriptions are having a hard time staying healthy b/c they can't afford their meds. So they said that a lot of meds. are the same price for 10mg or 20mg. or 25mg and 50mg etc. so they suggested talking to their dr. and asking for the higher mg perscription and splitting the pills in half and cutting their cost in half. I saw this as a REALLY BAD IDEA! what happens when grandma forgets to split the pill and takes double!

just my two cents I was right there with ya on that one. I do think that it is great that she is doing so much to make sure her kids are getting an education, but if they are old enough to go to college they are old enough to work IMO. (Unless they are Doogie Howser, then really - scholarships...KWIM!)

Re: What the economy is doing to some people....
she is a perfect example of what is wrong with the labor policies in this country. my dad always said America went to hell in a hand basket the minute they started the part-time job business. businesses get away with hiring her for 20 hours here, 20 hours there... and no benefits or a decent pension anywhere. this is why you have people working themselves to the bone because none of their several jobs pays them the salary and benefits they need to be comfortable. it's a crime.
When our parents and grandparents worked, aprticualrly in the 50's - 70's, you were guaranteed a full-time job with benefits and you stayed in a place for a long time because you were secure and taken care. that is not the case anymore. it's sad.
