Re: What time does your 2 year old go to sleep?
I think she's going to bed wayyy too late it sounds like. Try putting her in at 7:30. She may be overtired at the point you are getting her into the crib which is why she is giving you a hard time.

That is what I told DH but last night I tried an earlier dinner and it was a disaster she refused to eat at all.

It's def. not going to happen in one shot - and will take some adjusting to her schedule. I would keep moving up dinner time - if she doesn't eat, so be it - she won't starve one night. I would start her nightly routine earlier and aim to have her in bed by 7:30-8 the latest. Good luck!

I can't move it up too much b/c her nap time is 2 or 3 pm for 2-2.5 hours (preschool is 2 days until 230 - once the school starts its full routine. So many days when she does nap it is until 5 or 530.

Re: What time does your 2 year old go to sleep?
DD is goes to bed close to 10 But we start bathtime early, she just takes her time playing, getting dressed, reading stories. Some days it is easier, others days no.
One thing to consider, is DD eating anything that might be revving her up? Sweet maybe? I have noticed that even if Sabrina is tired, a little sugar keeps her up for a while.

Re: What time does your 2 year old go to sleep?
DS goes to sleep b/w 10 and 10:30. This is what works for him and nothing I do seems to change that. Although I like that he goes to bed a bit later so he can eat dinner with DH and I and DH gets alot of play time with him (DH gets home b/w 7 and 8 most days) - I still wish he would go to sleep about an hour earlier b/c he doesn't wake up in the morning until around 10:30. But, I have come to see, at least with my DS, some kids have their own biological clock and what works for them - this is actually an improvement for us as he was going to bed even later as an infant. I have tried everything and the end result is the same - either he stays in his crib playing until his "normal" bedtime or he wakes up multiple times in the middle of the night. This is true EVEN if I wake him up VERY early - he just ends up sleeping less and being cranky and overtired. I've tried it so many times and so many different ways - its not a coincidence.
Anyway, I feel your pain - this works great for us in alot of ways in the sense that it allows us alot of flexibility with going places and parties and events (which with a big family we have a lot of) and its great that DS spends time every day almost with DH - it also is the way he gets the most sleep (11-12 hours) and sleeps the best at night. HOWEVER, that said - it is a pain with classes and gtg's b/c MANY things start b/f 10 - when he wakes up. Starting Monday I am going to start having to wake him up earlier for a class so we will see how that goes...
Let me know if you figure out something that works!

Last night I finally got her down to sleep at 840 after being in her crib screaming since 745. I just sat on the floor next to her crib and kept reading stories to her until she finally calmed down - then I left her playing with her turtle (baby einstein she still loves listening to it). We will try it again tonight and hope that she transitions. Of course now DD#2 was sleeping from 830-sometime between 4 and 6am - but the past 2 nights she is waking at 1 and 4 and 6am. I think I threw her off on wed night b.c I had a hospitality committee meeting for DD#1's preschool so she didn't go down until 930 (I tried to put her down at 730 before I left but she wouldn't go down and she still won't take a bottle so it is hard for DH to put her down).
Juliet- I don't think so - last night actually she ate a big dinner which is rare. She had plain grilled flatten chicken breast with rice that I made that had a little chicken broth, carrots and tomatoes. Then she ate plain steamed broccoli and carrots. That is a typical dinner for her. She does drink juice b.c she can't have milk - BUT when we make her drinks she gets 1 ounce of apple and 8 ounces of water - so it is really only flavored water. I have tried to only give her water at night but I don't notice a difference in her behavior.

Did you stay in her room from 7:45-8:40 reading? Do you think that is distracting her and actually keeping her up? Jack will play in his crib anywhere from 5minutes to an hour - but I could never be in there with him....he would get so worked up if I was sitting on the floor.

See the time she was going down was kind of working but I worry that she can't do that forever - now she is starting school and I need her to eat lunch before she goes - so if she sleeps until 9 or 930 then she can't eat at 11-1130 which is when she would need to eat before school.
I know that eventually she will need to get up early when she really starts school and I worry that it will be too much of a transition at that time if I put it off that long. What do you think?
