Re: What time is too early to trick or treat?
I have to share DS w/ EH so he will be out at 12. If you are in church or not home, we'll try the next house. But if you're the type of person who doesn't want to answer the door for a 2 year old, then I don't want you to - I'd rather my kid not have to deal with you. Its Halloween... once a year...

I'm in Queens so we'll be starting around 5pm.
I'm in Queens too ... why are you waiting until 5pm?
Thats when all the kids come out in my neighborhood...and its cool bc its right before dusk...everyone just hangs out on the stoop giving out candy.

Re: What time is too early to trick or treat?
We aren't going until 5.
Last year we went at 5 and we were the first ones out, I got a lot of "you're early" comments so we won't start any earlier.
I won't start later because we have little ones and we have work/daycare the next day.
ETA: I don't really mind if people come at noon, we are up (but probably not home).

I find it so funny that no one in my neighborhood (I'm in CT) goes trick or treating before the sun goes down. I think it's a New England thing. In NY, I'd expect people to start trick or treating sometime during the afternoon.

Re: What time is too early to trick or treat?
If anyone rings my doorbell before noon, Im not answering it, LOL. The kids have ALL day, there is no reason to possibly bother some people who are still in the process of waking up or getting ready for the day when you have the whole day ahead of you.

Yeah but some of the little ones take naps in the afternoon or have early bedtimes.

Re: What time is too early to trick or treat?
Wow, we never started before the LATE afternoon. Times have changed I guess. I honestly think before 12 is too early. There is enough time in the day to find time to trick or treat without potentially annoying people.

I was surprised when I moved from Mass to NY and saw kids out at 3, 4, 5pm Trick or Treating.
In MA, we went after dinner time, at dusk. Tradition is that you go to the houses which have their outside lights on. If there are no lights outside lit up, you skip it since those folks don't want to be bothered.

See, and this time would annoy me as it's dinner time in my house for my DD and DS is usually in the middle of a bottle at that time as well. I would not answer the door between 5-6pm
We used to go out after dinner (although I was older at the time).
I'd rather have trick or treaters mid to late afternoon.

Re: What time is too early to trick or treat?
i plan on taking DS after he has his lunch so like 12:30-1pm. We'll go out for an hour or so and then come back in time for his afternoon nap at 2:30.
for me, i dont think 11:30 is too early. i love getting trick or treaters so as long as im up i wouldnt mind kids ringing the bell!

I agree. We are in CT and last year out bell didn't ring once until 5 and than it was nonstop until about 7:30. We didn't go TOT last year since both my kids were babies, but now that DS is 2.5, we will go probably around 5ish.

I think that is too early. Remember, a lot of people have church or sports on Sunday mornings, so you may not even get a lot of people home at that time.
I agree. since it is on a Sunday this year, I am assuming lots of people will out for Mass and then brunch. I think 1PM would be safe, we are going at 3PM.

I am Upstate and think, at least up here, the going out early is a new thing. I don't remember ever going before dinner as a kid. Last year we had kids show up starting around 2 or 3PM.
