What to buy Ava for her 6th Birthday? D1 or Wii
She never really asked for either, but my nephews are coming for 2 weeks and they have a DS and I know they would all enjoy Wii.
Which do you suggest?

The Wii is a BIG hit in my house. It's also great when people come over. Fun for both kids and adults.

My almost 4 year old daughter loves both.
She started playing around with my DS so I purchased a few fun games for her (Dora, My little pony, etc).
Then we bought a toy story game for Wii so we could all play and she loves that too.
Do you travel a lot or spend a lot of time in the car? If so the DS may be a good option.
If not, at least you can all enjoy the wiii.

I vote DS.
The camera is fun for kids - my boys and my goddaughter are always taking goofy pics.
There are a ton of games ranging from taking care of animals and dressing up your avatars to brain games and the typical action adventure.
It seems like most kids have them - and they can download and play games together when they are in the same place.
And it's portable - so it's a LIFESAVER on long car rides.
We do like the Wii too - but the DS was just more bang for the buck in my opinion.

I'd say the Wii. We have a Wii, and it's a family game system. I've seen too many kids with DS's that block out everything around them, and they are completely inside the game. I realize that DC will mostly likely have one at one point, but I like to keep the games to a social level as long as I can.
Also, because they are so portable, they wind up playing with the game when they should be doing something else (like paying attention to the adults that are trying to teach them something - not in school, but other places)

It's hard - its a toss up!
My kids love the Wii but the DS is so portable, it comes everywhere with us. Usually in the car for any type of car trips. So if you are in the car a lot, I might go with the DS!
