what type of friends do you have?

Are you more inclined to being friends with people of your own race or do you have friends that are more diverse?

My closest friends happen to be of the same ethnicity as myself but I think that is more a product of the fact that I went to Catholic schools my whole life that were predominantly white.

The friends I have made in the workplace have been very diverse.

My friends are very diverse... it might make a difference that I married an Ecuadorian... and we have mutual friends ... My HS did not have a lot of diversity,mostly white students...therefore white friends... but when I went to college (even though it was a predom. white catholic college) and when I started working, I met and befriended people of all races...and my DH

ETA: I think I have a pretty equal amount of white friends as I do friends who are other races/ethnicities

I have friends of all races.. but the majority happen to be the same as me. That said.. I don't think inclination has anything to do with it. I am willing to be friends with anyone - I just happen to know a lot of white people!

Very diverse. I am usually the only "white" person in my group.

I have a diverse group of friends from various races, religions, sexual orientations, locations, etc.

If I like a person, then I like a person.

My friends are diverse. You should have seen my bridal party. The only common theme was the dress.

I have a whole mish mash of friends ..I love we when all get together..the straight guys love the gay guys..we really laugh alot

I guess technically my friends are all of my race.......though I do have my token American Indian friend and I "think" she would be considered a different race no?

I wouldn't say that I am "more inclined" to be friends with people of my own race, but most of my friends from high school and college are the same race as me.

I am friends with people who I like and share the same interests as me - if they are the same race or different, it doesn't matter to me!

Pretty much all of my good friends are the same race/ethnicity as me. I was raised in a predominantly white area and went to a predominantly white college, so that's most of who I was around. I do have some friends who are not white, though, and certainly don't base my friendship on someones race.

I have always had a mix of friends. My closest friends are of the same race as I, with DH (not being white) he has a huge mix of friends.

i call my group of friends "the united nations" because we all come from different ethnic backgrounds.

My closest friends are very ethnic- but we do vary ethnicities. Most of us are first generation american. A lot of my friends are Jewish, but our parents are from all over (Greece, Europe, Israel). My other closest friend is a Hindu from India who was raised in Tokyo.

Odd. I never thought about it until I saw this thread.

Most of my friends are caucasion or hispanic.

All of my friends are the same race as me - that is mainly because we have been friends since grade school and our neighborhood is NOT diverse.

My friends from growing up are all the same race as me, because the town I grew up in was just about all white.
My more recent friendships (college, work) are all mixed races.

I grew up in a neighborhood and school district that was primarily caucasian, Asian and Indian. My closest friends were white Jews like myself. I did not hand pick them. It just worked out that way. Once I went to college, things began to diversify and I had friends of different races and religions. Things are pretty much like that now. I never hand picked my friends base on race, religion or socio-economic status. I pick my friends based on their character.

I only have one friend that is not white but I don't think that's my fault!! I think it's just because I grew up in an area that is, by statistic, 98.7% caucasian. There was not one single black person in my entire school-- or district for that matter there were a few Spanish people... Like ten Then, I went to a local College so I just went to and from class- never time to make any "friends".

Now, my one friend that I became friends with about a year ago (through LIW actually) is Spanish... She knows that I have lived a very sheltered life, not by choice- just how it happened... So she thinks it's funny that I'm a little naive and clueless to other cultures/races.

OOH! I did have one friend who was black (we were friends for about a year or two) but then he moved about two years ago-- Almost forgot... We lost touch b/c he moved REALLY far away. I met him at a "hang out" place my friends and I used to go to on weekends in HS-- he was a Security Officer and now is a Police Officer in another State. Yeah, that was it though.

I had a few Jewish friends in High School... same race, different religion. I learned a lot about the Jewish faith because when I was in religion (I'm Catholic) they wanted us to learn about other religions- we actually took a field trip to a temple which was cool- learned a lot. I dated a guy in HS that is Jewish also.

i think i have a pretty diverse group of friends. DH and i joked that our wedding was like the United Nations.

i grew up in a mostly white area--and usually was the token spanish girl....but still tried to relate to any culture. i think i have a personality that i can get along with just about anyone. i lived in the south for 5 years and had friends that were good old southern boys and just as much hang with my friends who are a little 'hood up here.

i'm all about ppl and personalities, i could care less about the color of their skin.
