Re: what type of friends do you have?
Guys, girls, black, white, Jewish, Catholic...
I even have a (gasp!) Republican friend.
And I still like her, even.

My friends are diverse. You should have seen my bridal party. The only common theme was the dress.

Re: what type of friends do you have?
I would say most of my friends are of similar ethnic backgrounds...but it's more of a common ground thing. These are all friendships that developed due to a common interest years ago.
When I was in HS - I had many close friends who were black or hispanic. I lived in a very raciallly diverse neighborhood. Those friendships sort of fell away over time though.

My closest friends happen to be of the same ethnicity as myself but I think that is more a product of the fact that I went to Catholic schools my whole life that were predominantly white.
The friends I have made in the workplace have been very diverse.
I've had a similar experience. My BF's I've had since high school and it just happens to be that we are from similar backgrounds. My friends since then are more about common experiences.

Re: what type of friends do you have?
It's funny, growing up in Great Neck, and being jewish, I was NEVER friends with the other jewish girls in my classes - no offense to anyone here, but I just couldn't stand them - I'm going to generalize here, but most of them were stuck up, materialistic, shallow and self-absorbed, so I always sought out friends who weren't part of that group.
But, now that I'm older, in a totally different city, it appears that I've sought out friends with that similar background. I'd say about 70% of my closest friends are jewish, so I can't say my circle of friends are all that diverse. I think for me, it's just my comfort zone. I like being able to throw a yiddish word or two into my conversation with my friends, and they "get" what I'm saying
But, with that said, at work, you couldn't find a more diverse group of people if you tried - and I'm loving every minute of it
