Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
Both of our houses have been center hall colonials. I love all the bedrooms upstairs. I love a formal dining and living room when you walk in.
Best part of our new house is that it has a kitchen great room off the back which is less formal so we have the best of both worlds.
I don't like a cape because of the bedroom thing.
I never thought I would like a ranch but when house hunting we saw one I really loved and would have considered if we hadnt found our house.

This.
Our cape is dormered w/3 bdrms and 1 bath upstairs .
The 2 bedrooms that were downstairs: we turned the bigger one into a dining room and the smaller one into an office (which can be a bdrm again if we need it)
I always loved the feeling of a cape

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
We prefer colonials. But we did bid on a contemporary home that we really liked with 2 bedrooms on 1st floor, and 2 on the second.
I would consider a split level too because the bedrooms are typically together.

Colonial with an open floor plan. Our next house will def be a colonial, I feel it's easier with kids.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
Colonials
I'm not sure if I have a cape or colonial lo. It's a rear dormered cape but all BR's are upstairs and it's a center hall entrance so the dining room and living room are on opposite sides of the staircase.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
As an agent, I know there are pros and cons of all styles, and it really depends on the family and their needs.
Personally, I have a split (although I was originally focused on getting a colonial), and I love my model of split. It has everything I wanted - I have a master suite, all 3 bedrooms are upstairs, a living room, a formal dining room, a large eat-in kitchen, a lower level den, 2.5 baths, an attached 2 car garage, and a finished basement. Of course, there are a million different types, sizes and layouts of splits, so not every one has all of this.
In a split, it's nice that you have a lot of different living areas (e.g., living room AND den, eat-in kitchen AND dining room), and you can have a lot of people in my house but it doesn't feel that way because we are spread out on different levels. I think it's great if you have kids, too, because even if your child is playing in the basement, they are never that far away (b/c you don't have full flights of stairs).

I love Victorians.
We don't have one, but I hope that our second home is one. I also really love colonials and certain Tudor styles.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
I used to only want two levels but as I get older I see the value of a ranch. I would want a large sprawling ranch that has the bedrooms on one side, the living areas in the back or on the other side with a kitchen in the middle of the house.
Good for when you have kids, good for when you are older and can't climb stairs. Everything on one level.
That's my next house...whenever that happens.

I love Arts & Crafts, Cape Cods & Colonial. We ended up w/a Cape b/c when we are ready to remodel, we can basically turn it into anything we want.

I love Colonials. Love the formal feel. Only downside is they tend to have smaller rooms.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
I grew up in a ranch & dreamed of living in a colonial. That's what we bought and I am every time I go up and down the stairs. Especially with 2 under 2 who BOTH wanted to be carried up and down.
My aunt and uncle had a beautiful ranch where their master suite was on one side of the house, kitchen and formal living room and den were in the middle of the house and 3 addtl bedrooms were on the other side of the house. I loved that layout and if / when we ever move it is what I will be looking for!

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
Practically I love ranches. 1 story or at least houses with 1 bedroom/bathroom downstairs.
Then it could be my forever home because I would not worry about not being able to go to my bedroom upstairs as I get older.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
I would like a hi ranch or a split. I like the idea of having a big den area separate from the formal living room / kitchen. To me it is functional and practical with kids and for someone who entertains.
I think colonials are beautiful, tudors also but for my needs not as practical.

Re: What type of home do you prefer and why?
I love Colonials. It is really the only style house we considered with 3 kids. I like the separate floor for bedrooms and I love the layout of our specific ground floor. Plus since our home is on a hill, the garage is level with the basement and we have a huge "extra" room (den) above the garage.
