What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
When it comes to solid foods, what type of mom are you?
- Strict by the book/ped? - Loose with some stuff? - Do what you feel is best?
I am pretty easy going with feeding Jiavana new things and feel that I know her best. So even though I follow the chart the dr gave me, I tend to follow her interests.
For example, I was eating vanilla ice cream and she kept grabbing for the spoon, so i gave her a little and she loved it. Of course I am careful and don't do more than 1 new thing a day.
But anyway, how would you describe your "feeding" rules?

I'm pretty loose. I started him earlier than what is typically recommended. I don't measure anything like some mommies do, I just go by what I think he wants.

I go pretty much by the peds rec. I stay away from most table food right now. IMO, I don't think it is necessary yet.

i tend to be loose when i am giving her food, but very strict when it comes to others giving her food. if it were up to her grandparents she would be eating rice and beans a long time ago !!

I do what I feel is best....
Julia has been eating table food since she was 9 months though...
I don't let her have any fast foods...
I cook all of her meals, I like her to eat foods that aren't high in salt, so I can control it that way, (plus I love cooking).
I really don't keep a lot of sweets in my house, if she wants a snack its usually an organic cookie (oatmeal or banana), or a low fat granola bars.
I will let her have a little icecream and cake if we are at a party, or something but that's the only time she eats that stuff.

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I go with the flow. She tries everything I eat, unless it has milk or soy or avocado, since she's allergic to those things. I never received a chart or a list of foods to give her, he just gave me the ok to give her anything I'd like other than nuts and shellfish, neither of which we eat in my house. I want her to be an adventurous eater, so I try to introduce something new every couple of days.

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I don't play by the rules.
Ella eats everything. I make all her food which allows me a lot more variety. I don't measure anything. Whatever we're eating, she usually wants a taste of it, and generally gets one.
I'd rather introduce her to new tastes now when she's younger so she's used to them, and doesn't become a picky eater.
(E's almost 8 months)

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
With Sarah I was pretty strict/by the book until she was on table food. We don't have junk in the house so she doesn't get cake and stuff unless we are at a party.
I started out pretty loose with Andy but he has had some reactions to food so now I'm very conservative and introduce new stuff slowly to make sure he's not going to react at all.

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I think I am pretty loose but I want to be the one to give it to him not anyone else. I think mainly for fact that if something is given to him and I am not told and he has a reaction how would I know. I try to introduce new foods but he is picky with what he wants to try.

I am very lenient. Stared solids at 4 1/2 months and she was pretty much off all baby food by 9 months. I give her basically anything, she has no allergies and really loves to eat. I gave her eggs before a year and started her on whole milk at 10 1/2 months and she's still here!

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I'm a loosey goosey. Tonight Noah had a baked potato with tuna and sweetcorn AND a matzoh ball AND a lovely clementine AND a lovely sugary raspberry yogurt.
I like to try to give him what I am eating, he isn't always the best eater, so I am always trying to find something that he will eat. Last night he ate hummus and carrot sticks...he 's still alive, so I am guessing he isn't allergic to sesame seeds. I am a big believer that he should be trying a little bit of everything! I don't eat fast food, so neither does he. But he has eaten Chinese food, Indian food, Jewish Food...anything thats around, I give to him. My one issue is that I probably don't give him enough fresh veggies, but I do cook and freeze for him and that always has lots of veggies!

I do what I feel is best. I have 3 kids though. I think with my first I was more of a loose with some stuff kind of person. But we have no history of allergies in either family, which probably would have changed my actions if we did have them.

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I'm pretty easy going. One thing I like about my ped. is that he never gave charts or really had us follow any die hard rules. He's the kind of doctor that feels you have to go with instincts on different things because not all babies are the same. Since we have no allergies in our families he's not concerned about too much when it comes to eating. The only things I still don't give her are peanut butter and shellfish. I'm sure she'd be fine but I just don't want to deal with an allergy if I don't have to and if waiting lowers the risk then I'll just wait.

Re: What type of mom are you (in terms of food)
I use to be worried to give my oldest son when he was a baby a lot of things. It was either because I was scared of allergies or him choking. I think because I did that, he has turned out to be a very picky eater. So, now with my little one I pretty much give him whatever I am eating. Of course, the first time I give him something new it's very little, this way I know if he has a reaction to it. We are lucky because he has a very good appetite.
