What was the most empowering moment in your life?
The moment when everything in your life changed in either a positive or negative direction?

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
First, it was the day I met DH, then, it was the day Christopher was born. Both in a positive aspect, of course.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
I have had a few.
Speaking at my father's funeral was pretty empowering- maybe it was writing the speech. It made me realize how lucky I was to have a dad like that.
Getting my job was a very empowering moment. I was chosen of over 100 candidates.
Joining a rape crisis hotline after two girls on my freshmen hall were assaulted the first month of college was pretty empowering.
I know its not a moment, but my whole relationship with DH is empowering. Whever I feel bad about myself, I can step away and say that this amazing man loves me- so I can't be too terrible.
ETA: Also walking on hot coals! Should be my boundaries were limitless!

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
I've had a few too..
1) getting out of a long-term, emotionially abusive relationiship and finally learning to live on my own ... living alone for many years made me the independent person I am today.. and before that I was very needy and really never thought I could "make it" on my own
2) meeting DH and learning to trust and allow myself to realize I deserved to be loved again .. but this time I was finally with someone who DESERVED my love in return

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
For me it was when I bought my first apt. - I was really young and single and it was really empowering to do something like that for myself - it marked my independence.
The second moment was when I had my daughter. After that I felt I could do anything - it's amazing what you are capable of - giving birth was the hardest, most fufilling thing I have ever done - whenever I doubt my abilities I will think of that moment.

First Lisa, Props to you girl for that!!!! That's def. an empowering moment.
My most empowring moment was moving out of my parents house and realizing that I was able to make it on my own. Second was having my daughter at a young age and realizing that I'm a Da** good parent!!!

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Working in the White House..I was working so hard, but felt so lucky to be there. Finishing my honors thesis in college...Nothing, not even my doctoral work, has been more difficult, and when I finished it I felt like after that I could do anything academic or work-related. Buying our condo with money I had saved from working was really self-empowering...
On a personal level, meeting my best friend in college who has been like a sister to me, and, of course, meeting and marrying DH.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
1.Getting licensed as a funeral director (especially since the reason I went to school for it was that at the age of 14 I had read an article saying it is a male dominated industry!)
2. Learning to ride my Harley! Holy cr*p that thing is big!

3. Recently meeting a group of women who ride motorcycles & realizing that not only are they people to ride with, but they are becoming real friends as well! Being with this club is empowering just when the mens clubs watch us handle our bikes on our own!
That is very cool...you go Harley Mama!

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
getting the courage to leave my husband after only being married for 7 months (due to his alcohol/drug addiction)
being there for the birth of my goddaughter!!! what an amazing experience!
watching my ex boyfriends mom go from a vibrant young woman to a vegetable because of brain cancer within months I bascially watched her die. I know this sounds sad but it gave me a new aspect on life that it is too short and to live while you can....

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Finally breaking away from a set of very unhealthy family relationships. It was so hard, but I am so much happier!
Marrying my husband, on that day I felt like I could do anything! (This also ties into my first one).

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Watching my Dad pass away.
Admitting to my Mom that I was in an abusive relationship. By doing that, I knew that I could never go back and I was strong enough not to.
The day I finally excepted the fact that I needed medication to control my panic attacks. I was in control once again!

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Finally finding medication that would really control my asthma.
Telling DH that I wanted to be married, and that I didn't want a long-term-cohabiting relationship. I am not good at asking for what I want.
Sticking out my first year of teaching at a really rough, unmanaged school and not quitting.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Getting my 1st job @ 16 helped me become "Less Shy" and open up. That led me to promotion, a great group of friends, and my DH. Graduating College was a huge accomplishment for me. In Jr. High and beginning of HS you would find me in the "lower classes". By JR Year, I wanted to change that around and I did! I got into college, and graduated with B's and B+s on my transcript. Being with my sister all through her pregnancy and being in the waiting room when the phone rang and it was my mom telling my "You have a godson"..the tears started flowing Just being able to be there for my family and friends everyday AND my LIF girls!!!
