Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
1- Toss up between the day I left the hospital after giving birth to my daughter without her in my arms, yet found the strength to stand up and walk without crumbling. OR the day I buried her without dying myself.
2- the day I drove to work after almost a year suffering from agorophobia.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Giving birth to my daughter just how I had planned, with no drugs. It was so hard but so worth it.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
1. Celebrating my mother's 24th year of sobriety. (It certainly wasn't easy getting to this point)
2. Speaking at my father's funeral
3. Paying for my entire wedding myself!
4. Graduating with honors from Graduate school.
5. Failing miserably at fertility, but realizing that there is life without chidlren (well, maybe)

Lots of hugs to you. I hope one day I can say giving birth to my child, but so far all I can think of is marrying the man of my dreams, and graduating from grad. school. This is on the positive note.
Negative.....finding out my mom has Cancer just recently and will have to undergo Chemo, and having my M/c. After all I went through, I never knew I can love somthing I have never touched so muc in my life, and to have that stripped of me

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
1- The birth of my daughter
2- Marrying my DH
3- Knowing the exact moment my Grandfather died (though he was in FLA and I was in NY and no one had called to tell me yet)
4- Seeing my attacker be removed from school and knowing that I prevented more people from getting hurt and from there working with a Rape coalition.
5- Buying our house on our own with no help from our families and never having to mooch off of anyone.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
A few months after I had broken off an 8 year realtionship, I was laughing and talking with my father (with whom my relationship was strained for all those years). My father looked at me and said, "You're back!"
"What?"
He said, "You're back. You have always had a sparkle in your eyes and somewhere along the way, you lost it. I finally see that sparkle again. I thought it might be gone forever."
In that moment, I knew that I was going to be okay. Permanently okay. I realized I was finally beginning to know myself and that that was an important thing.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Quitting my job, getting married, and moving to a new country all in the span of a week.
One moment at work when I stood up to a glossy magazine editor and told her my dancers were not going to take their clothes off - it's a long story, but my dancers were so appreciative.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
the most major, in my opinion was the day I told my abusive addict boyfriend that I wanted NOTHING to ever do with him again.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
when i first read the title of this thread and all of the responses, I truly had to think about my answer. While I can totally relate to some of the posts about removing negative people from your life, or overcoming an obstacle successfully (which I might add, KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU - ) - For me, hands down, the most empowering momentS in my life has been giving birth to my two little girls. There is nothing more empowering then seeing the life you've created, and the love that fills your heart.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
First I have to say you girls are so strong & brave and great role models for the little girls of today. Although I have experienced alot of what you girls did and I view them as accomplishments I don't think I was empowered by them. I think empowerment is something you feel at that moment (right?) I don't think I have had that yet but I definitely think that would be something you would get giving birth. Am I missing something did I feel it and I am defining it wrong?

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
Wow...some of the stuff you ladies have been through and have accomplished is just amazing... to you all.
As for me...
- Fighting tooth and nail for my last promotion... it was a tough thing to do while pregnant without breaking down
- Forgiving someone...it was a big one
- Realizing that DH was 'the one' and making that commitment
And the most empowering moment by far has been giving birth to my baby boy... after having him, I really feel so empowered...like I could handle almost anything life throws at me because I know I would do anything for him.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
my mother surving breast cancer..
my mother surving lung cancer 10 years later..
landing my first job out of school making more money than my parents told me over and over I wouldn't get close to getting.
making the decision to break up with an ex who I loved dearly for his children. His children were really really upset that we were living together and were having alot of problems. We decided it would be best for him to move back down to Georgia and take care of them first. It was probably the first full selfless act I ever did.

Re: What was the most empowering moment in your life?
empowerment.....had to be when i got engaged and told my (very strict catholic) parents that Tom and I were moving in together. I never lived outside their house before (only a short time in college). I felt like I made my own choice and stuck to it.
