Re: what would you do?
Nice!
I would definitely find out if the outdoor patio space is a definite. I love having a yard and having friends over during the warm months and that is priceless to me - and I know you like to entertain too.
As for the kitchen - you could always upgrade the one in the apartment somewhere down the road!

Nice! Good Luck.
The family I babysat for just moved into a 3 bedroom on 110th directly across from Central Park. They renovated the whole place. Turned out beautiful. BUT...there is also a homeless shelter a few doors down and a Correctional Facility a few doors down the other way. No thanks! They do have a gorgeous view of the park though

City.
We thought we really wanted a yard so we moved out of the city - we are planning to move back.

Re: what would you do?
You know I'm a Queens girl so I vote Bayside I also just prefer a more suburban/urban lifestyle, like a house, yard etc.
If you want the city then thats the obvious pick.
My aunt and uncle have a brownstown in Brooklyn Heights, couldnt give the thing AWAY in the 80's/90's now its worth over 3 m

If you get the outside space, #1 If not, then #2 sounds great!
Will this be a "long time" kind of home?

what would you do?
We have a single family home with a great yard on LI & a small apartment in midtown manhattan that has no outdoor space at all. I really love spending quiet time outside so if we were going to live in manhattan FT I would need to find a place with even a small terrace. So my vote is to make sure you get outdoor space! and BTW or city apt is amazing but our kitchen is super small and not practical for serious cooking but we eat out a lot in the city

Bayside IMO the best of both worlds.
I lived in the city all my life recently moved to LI. If I could have afforded it I would have bought a house in Bayside. You still are close enough to the City and have city like amenties (buses, public parks, etc) but you get that little slice of suburbia. Best of both worlds if you ask me.
BTW: DH works in Harlem..they are really turning parts of Harlem around but IMO I still wouldn't live there. There are too many undesirable things located right next to $$$ real estate.

Re: what would you do?
we are so torn. Luckily I have my place in douglaston and he has his place in astoria so we get the best of both worlds at the moment. Time is also on our side. Guess I'll keep searching and go to open houses.

Where would you park in the city ?
And what's wrong with Bayside ? If I could trade my garden co-op for a house with a yard, I would do it in a heartbeat. At least I have a garage and a parking space not on the street.

Good point..parking in Harlem sucks...especially if you have two cars. Unless the building comes with a spot chances are you are going to be paying an extra $200-300 for a spot in the city..
