what would you do? (frozen breastmilk related)

this evening i took out a bag of milk to make some cereal for dc. when it defrosted, i smelled it and it was totally bad. Chat Icon so i took out another and same thing. Chat Icon

now i don't know what the heck happened. maybe something went on with my freezer one day, maybe i had it open too long thanksgiving, trying to organize the space-who knows.

i have a bunch of other bags left. what would you do? i don't know if they are all bad, but i can't defrost them all to check, but i don't want to keep them if they are.

i am so frustrated-i hate pumping as it is and if they are all bad i am going to be so upset. Chat Icon

thanks for any input.

someone posted about this recently. I can't remember who but she said that her milk went bad when she defrosted it. I'll do a search. . . . . .

are you sure its bad? maybe you just ate something smelly that day? I know what its like to lose that liquid gold, so I am hoping thats not the case.

I've read that defrosted milk can really be stinky.

i'm not so sure it's that. i have defrosted and used milk before and never did it have this problem.

i just did some quick reading on kellymom and i think it has to do with where i am storing the milk. my freezer was really packed and i had it up against the wall closest to the front. when the freezer door is open it is right there.

if this is the problem, then maybe the ones in the back are OK. I would try one from the back.

I had a lipase in my milk and it was all rancid. I wasn't able to use it. Everyonce in a while I would get a bag that smelled okay, but for the most part, my frozen BM was rancid. You could boil it to pasturise it....
