may be a stoopid question....xmas lights related
Are there xmas lights that I can put on the trees outside that do not require an electrical outlet? perhaps ones that run on batteries or something?
It's just really hard to decorate outside and then plugging it in inside the house w/out leaving a window/door cracked open a bit....and talk about extension cords!

There are sets run on battery - but I don't know how long they would last.. you might have to change batteries every day.

You would be buying batteries constantly it would be ridiculous. I bought a little pumpkin that was battery operated and I stopped using it b/c the batts would run out within a day or two if you leave it on a couple of hours straight.

Re: may be a stoopid question....xmas lights related
i noticed a few neighbors using the LED lights.. thats the solar ones !! but they are expensive, like $35- & up for a set .. & a set is like 50 lights, if you have alot of shrubs that can get very expesive, but they are so purty & brighter

Are you in a house...if so, you must have an outside outlet. Look for it, they are usually hidden behind bushes or something.

Re: may be a stoopid question....xmas lights related
Wanna hear something that makes me seem REALLY dumb? We have an outdoor outlet and I had NO IDEA. My husband thought I was the biggest idiot because I couldn't figure out how he got the lights to go without keeping out office window open. I thought he ran the line into the siding!!!
Anyway - double check to see if you have an outdoor outlet - you might be surprised!!!

I would think most homes do - how can you keep the window cracked open for the wire when its cold out!?!?
I could be wrong though (apartment dweller for life here)

My parents only had one installed recently, but they used to do something involving the the light socket for the porch light for our outdoor lights. I dont know what exactly they did or if it was dangerous though.

Re: may be a stoopid question....xmas lights related
i have always done what the previous poster mentioned, most outside light bulbs, you know the one by your front door, have an outlet on there somewhere also and is perfectly safe to use

It is safe. It is a special adapter that changes a socket to an outlet. Many people do that.
We don't have an outdoor outlet. We run extensions to our garage outlet instead.

Re: may be a stoopid question....xmas lights related
what r u decorating? something small? battery lights do not last long I use the inside and out for small things, you really need a electrician to given u a outside outlet outside your front door to the right or left and u can run extension cords---only way... heating bill will kill you! its not that hard if you know a electrician. Good luck
