What would you do??( PED advice)
I LOVE LOVE my boys PED. However she is leaving the practice and going on her own and with someone else. She is leaving before my boys 12 month well visist, so Im seeing someones else that day until she gets settled in to her new place. My question is I really want to stay with her (she adores my boys and has seen them since they were a week old) My concern is if she is sharing a practice with one other Dr. (Anyone go to a PED with just 1 Dr?) The place I go to now has many Dr.s and had to bring Christopher in for an emergency a few times, and someone was always there to see him. Do you think being that it will only be her and one other Dr. that that is a good thing, or bad?? What would you do??

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
Yeah, I say follow. With 2 doctors there I am sure you will get to see a doc when you need.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
I say go with her. My ped. is the only one in the office and he either has his cell phone number as an emergency number when he's not there or he leaves the number of another office covering for him on his answering machine. I've never had a problem. A good ped. is hard to find, so definitely stick with her if you like her.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
this is a very tough call. I would ask her how she plans on handling those situations. She may be planning on working more days or longer hours herself. If you feel that you can still maintain the same level of care with her, then move to her practice. If not, then consider finding a new doctor in the current practice.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
My 2 DC go to a 1 Dr. office. When he is not available, there is a Dr. to cover for him. (I've known him since I was 11 or 12, so I know where he lives, and have his home # as well, which helps... )
I would follow the Dr. you really like.

I would stay with her. My ped is a father and son practice. They also have a few NPs that help out. I love that it is a small practice!

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
I would stay with her. I can see your concern, but I think it will be ok. They will always have somebody covering for emergencies. And if the new practice is busy, they will continue to add doctors as well.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
My old and my new ped are both solo practices and I never had any problems. My old ped would open up on days she was normally closed if it wasn an emergency visit. The day we moved she let me bring in both kids to have their well visits because after that we going to our new home and DD needed to be seen that week. I find they can be a little more accomidating. Even with the new practice I go the Dr. said that if she is closed she will come in for an emergency. Her covering dr. also came to her office instead of me going to their's.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)
I would move with her. I'm sure they'll have a system set up to have someone on call or working later for emergencies. Worst case scenario there is always urgent care or if she knows you well you can always address things over the phone. To me finidng a doctor you love is so hard that I wouldn't change.

ITA!
Plus, like another poster said, if she isn't there, she will either be on call or have someone who covers for her.
My ped is in solo practice, but he shares office space with another dr who covers for him when need be.

I agree w/Michele - you have to discuss this w/your ped. Even if she has a coverage plan for emergencies or late night calls, YOU may not like the doctors OR the advice they provide. I would look into it a bit more, before making the choice to follow this doctor. JMO.

my kids go to a ONE doctor office. and i loveeee it!! he is always in the office, he gives out his personal pager and i can call him 24/7. I persoanally like the smaller doctor office. i have never sat in the waiting room for more then 10 minutes and i can always get an appt. i would stick with her.

Re: What would you do??( PED advice)

We go to a one Dr practice and he is off on Thursdays. If they are sick on thursdays we take them to the covering Dr who I also like. I would go with her and make sure you like the partner.

I agree. Also another thing to consider is if they plan on taking your insurance. That would be a make or break deal for me.
Because you leave a practice, doesnt' mean you can't come back. Talk to your ped about the level of care, insurance, etc. Try it & if it doesn't work out, go back to your old place.

You could always take them a little after 12 months to her new office

Both my girls went to a doctor who has his own practice. I wouldn't have traded him for anything.
