What's a fair price for tree removal?
This is our first time needing to have a tree removed and I'm wondering how to tell if it's price gouging. What have you paid in the past for tree work? I'm trying to get a ballpark figure to work with so I know if the quotes are fair or not.
We have a section of a pine, about 40 feet long, that has mostly fallen (the heavy end is propped up about 12 feet in the air, held up by branches). We also have a dogwood, about 18 - 20 feet tall, 8" trunk, that is dying so we figure we'll get that removed at the same time. Only one needs the stump ground (the small dogwood).

If you can wait a month, I would - the prices now will be much higher because of demand.
Then the pricing will vary on complications like how easily they can access it with trucks and the cherry picker, etc.

Re: What's a fair price for tree removal?
last month for a oak tree that was about 30feet tall not that wide was $600 and that was also with cleaning up the other 6 trees on my property (sucker growth) and i didn't want to pay since it was too much money in my mind. Now it would be more like 900. i would wait another month if you can.

Re: What's a fair price for tree removal?
i agree on waiting due to the demand right now.
we got a quote to remove a maple tree from our yard. Its about 90yrs old... 63 inch diameter (yes 5.2 feet) trunk about 60 feet tall... it was a few thousand to completely remove.
you will find it varies from company to company... well established companies that have all their equipment paid off will be less... companies that use people who climb the tree instead of using a cherry picker will be more expensive...

That doesn't sound like it should be too much to take down. We took down several 20ft+ trees last year for $700 with the stumps ground.
I would wait if you can though. I know firsthand that they will charge 3x as much during this busy period after a storm.

Re: What's a fair price for tree removal?
We paid $1800 for 4 trees with all stumps removed. One of the tree was 120 ft. 2 were 30-40 ft. 1 about 20 ft. Trimmed 2 other trees on the front yard too.
Wait if you can. Price gouging on tree removal is full force right now.

I thought this but we just got a quote and it was $700 for a large tree and it's stump grinded. We paid $800 for the same thing 5 years ago. A good company will NOT take advantage!

Re: What's a fair price for tree removal?
I just had a cherry tree removed that's a little taller than my 1 story house, no stump grinding, and it was $275. Very accessible to the street but since it was sandwiched between power lines, they did it by hand.
Eastwood Tree in St. James.

Re: What's a fair price for tree removal?
I think $250-300 for the pine and 150 for the other tree with stump grinding included is fair. We recently cut done a lot of trees and we had a few trees you described and this was the quote we received from all the companies we received estimates from.
I will tell you, I wouldn't bother calling for at least a month because if the tree isn't blocking anything, in power lines or caused damaged to your home they won't come. I lost a 40 blue spruce last spring durning a bad rain/ wind storm and no one would come because it wasn't an emergency.

This isn't true. I called 2 days ago and told them I didn't have an emergency and needed my tree down in 1-2 weeks and they came today and gave me a fair quote and will be back Friday to take it down. The owner said he's swamped but they are showing up and doing right

I am jealous!! Tree service company's are the worst by me and this was what I dealt with last year. I think I called every company in my county and they just kept telling me no.
