What's fair pay for a Mother's Helper?

I decided in order to get anything done in my house this summer (and not go totally postal) I'll need a Mother's Helper to occupy the kids.

She is almost twelve and would be watching my 6, 4, and 3 yr olds on occasion so I can get stuff done in the home. It would only be maybe 2 hours every week. She is very local so I have no problem picking her up/dropping her off. She is the older sibling of one of my son's friends. What's fair?? Is $5.00 hr too little? Like I said it wouldn't be a lot of hours at all, so maybe more? I have no clue please helpChat Icon

My niece is helping her neighbor in her home daycare over the summer. She is getting $40 for 7 hours. She is also 12.(She spends all her time there either way). Now I wonder for only 2 hours is $5 an hour worth it for only $10. I would (just my opinion) give her $20 and maybe keep her for 3 hours to balance it out.

Re: What's fair pay for a Mother's Helper?

I have a 10 year old come and play with my 2 year old. She is like a mothers helper sort of. I supervise them but with a newborn it great to have another set of hands to run after my 2 yr old. I dont leave them alone because she is still young. I told her id give her 8 an hour. She usually comes for 2 hours 2 days a week. I've been giving her 40 for the 4 hours. She is great with my little one. Plays with her and helps me out so dh and I don't mind paying her more!
