Also does anyone know if Florida is still requiring anyone who is from NY to self quarantine when they get there?
I haven't heard or read anything more about the self quarantine of anyone from NY going to Fla since it began. I was looking for that info, as well.
As per Florida's DOT website, it says
"Travelers entering the state of Florida from areas of significant community spread including Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, or New York must self-isolate for a period of 14 days from their entry into Florida or the duration of their stay in Florida, whichever is shorter."
Florida DOT
thank you! I have been toying with the idea of going down to visit family. even if we cant leave anywhere my kids would love just being there!
but would much rather be able to do things if wanted.
I do see others posting it that they arent really enforcing so i guess we could get away with not self quartering!

So did Cuomo open beaches in NY?
yes memorial day weekend they will open though i dont even know what that means because on LI people have been going to the beach.
my DH just took my kids to the beach!
does it just mean there will be life guards and bathrooms open?
and thank you for the info on other states
Was just at Smith point Beach today and there were a ton of people on the beach sitting on blankets and chairs, playing games. I see the lifeguard chairs are being moved and they were installing new showers outside.

whats gong on in other states opening
My brothers girlfriend lives in Georgia and he went down there at the beginning of all this so she wasn’t alone (both travel for work) and are home. He said everything is open where he is with not too many restrictions but they also had a 40% increase in cases so.... there’s that

Thank you. I saw that the other day. I guess they are still enforcing that.
They should enforce it but they don't have the capacity to follow up with people.
People going from the NY area should be considerate and self-quarantine for 14 days as not to spread to the area but people are so selfish that they won't. Its a shame.
The people I know aren’t doing that.
Yeah, they should , but won't. My cousin from Manhattan just flew down to his parents in FL...he is not quarantining...granted he went to his parents and isn't going clubbing, lol, but stores and restaurants. They are open where they are.

Re: whats gong on in other states opening
I live in Texas. Retail stores, restaurants, hair and nail salons are open and can be at 25% capacity.
Masks are not mandatory. I never wear a mask unless I have to. (Doctor’s Office requires it).
Gyms are opening Monday. Masks are recommended and gloves are required.

If we are looking to have no new infections or spikes, we are going to have to stay closed forever. When you lock everything up for months of course rates will plummet. Then you let people around each other again, of course there will be new cases. Even we stay locked up for 6 more months, the day we start to open you will have spikes. If Florida and Georgia stayed closed until August, you'd see these same spikes in August. It's just delaying the inevitable Not sure what the solution is unless someone finds a miracle to eradicate this virus from earth.

No doubt you will have spikes, just saying that there isn’t a decline in cases while simultaneously opening that there is an increase in cases with them opening. I don’t think it’s realistic to eradicate the virus at this point. Do I want people to get it, no absolutely not but I think as long as the hospitals can handle a small increase and we can manage the virus, a strategic opening is possible. My hospital is still a little over 1/4 bed capacity of just COVID patients. I think what scares people is the severity is the virus if a person contracts it and DOES NOT fair well; there’s no way to tell. My coworker and good friend lost her 36 year old husband to the virus a few weeks ago they have a 3 and 1 year old, he had no underlying medical conditions, yet we have discharged patients with chronic respiratory and cardiac issues and they have survived the virus. I personally will continue to isolate for a period of time following reopening but I get that the common push right now is to reopen for economic and mental health reasons primarily which is fine. Each person needs to weight their risk vs benefit of going to places and seeing people and I think as long as the hospitals can handle an influx, it can be managed. However on the flip side, my coworkers and I are done, we are done working in double masks, barely able to breathe, changing into garbage bags, scrubbing down every hour, it’s mentally exhausting to work a shift so many people in healthcare will push for a longer closure because we are working IN it, seeing it and the mental toll on health care workers is just as severe as those in isolation but the percent of health care workers vs general public is smaller and no one mentions the mental health of those working in the hospitals. It’s just as bad and the long term PTSD will exist in healthcare workers. Everyone has their reason for or against opening, it’s just what’s manageable and for the common societal good.

CA - you cant leave your house without a mask.
FL - Nail and hair salons are open, beaches opened back up. They aren't strict with masks in central FL. My aunt was in Target and only two people were wearing masks. You can also go fishing
NC - Dentists are open
NJ - Dog Groomers are open, Non essential retail & constructions opens on Monday. Beaches opened this weekend to do a test run for Memorial Day. (Camps are scheduling to open in June/July)
Texas - I know nail salons and hair is being done legally (saw it on IG)
(The other states I am getting from my family)
ETA: NJ doesn't report metrics like Cuomo does with hitting all 7 per region etc. Or maybe Murphy is just discussing them instead of showing it in an excel sheet.
Texas (Dallas area) dentists are open too. In Houston, malls are open. Masks are required. all the department store cosmetics are put away.
Elective surgeries are now allowed in Westchester & Suffolk. Racetracks ( no spectators) open June 1)

I was talking to friends in other states today who’s kids go back to school in August - they are already talking about not going back on time. I started to cry.
One friend said they were talking Nov at the earliest with a rotating schedule.

48/50 states have closures for the rest of the year or until further notice. Montana and Wyoming have expired closures but not sure if they will open

My friend whose a teacher in NC was told to plan for remote learning for the next year and to have her lessons be easy to transition between on site and virtual in the event of going back on a part time basis. She’s so frustrated she has a 3 year old and her and her husband own a tourist bike rental shop as well so she needs to plan for child care. She’s fine with either way but just needs a clear answer. She also had stage 3 cancer 4 years ago while pregnant and wants to minimize herself in public (not on chemo and in remission currently) but she still wants to be prepared for either a possible leave or appropriate precautions

This is what I dont understand. In May of 2020 they are already predicting schools won't be safe until September of 2021. That is insane to me. Will the whole economy be shut until then? Because you can't have a fully functioning economy without schools. I don't blame your friend, how frustrating!

The resort I was supposed to go to in the Florida Keys in April just emailed us that they can officially reopen June 1st. Also the 2 resorts I follow and frequent on the Jersey Shore...one in Cape May and one in Diamond Beach...announced today they are reopening June 1 as well.

We really were worse off than the other states, and the NYC metro area was the worst of that. The other parts of the sate are opening slowly.

Florida has on 1900 reported deaths and NY has over 20,000. I don’t believe it’s a hidden agenda. When it was spreading in Europe people were flying into NYC before any action was taken. He did what he had to to and it worked. Can’t imagine what would have happened had we not shut down. I do think it’s time though and I agree with the slow reopening process...

100% agree it’s not about opening all at once, NY was hit so much harder than other areas you can’t just open NY like you would Florida. You have to take into account deaths, hospitalization, population density etc

I'm in NC and there has been no announcement for fall but we're remote learning for the rest of this year. Summer camps have also not been given the go ahead to open. We're currently in Phase 1 and there's talk about Phase 2 starting June 1, but our death rate has been going up so I'm not sure what's going to happen.
