I made DD's for 12:30, she wakes up from a nap usually around 11:00 ish so figured it would be a good time.

Honestly, I did DD's 1st birthday party around her nap schedule.
At that time she was still taking two naps a day
9-11 and then 2:30-5
I made her party 12-2

We went to one lately that was perfect--I think it was 11:00. It lasted a couple hours, had lunch, and all the kids seemed to be getting tired for their afternoon naps (DS's is at 2).

Re: what's the best time for a children's party?
Ours was 12-3 and it naps didn't seem to be an issue (although I did see a few babies sleeping in their strollers!) DD naps from 10-12 usually, so I did schedule it around her nap on purpose.
