whats the deal with honey?
i brought in a jar today to have with tea because my throat has been sore and so many people came by my desk asking if it was okay to have? Of course i panicked because i've been having a few tablespoons every day since friday!
Has anyone heard anything about this? I just looked in my what to eat when expecting book and it lists honey as an ingredient in some things. Could it be that maybe its not pasturized? I got it from a local farm

Honey is fine. But it is like peanut butter with little kids, you can't introduce it for a long time because of the risk of allergies.

FYI - Actually the problem with honey is a risk of botulism for children under the age of 1.
As an adult, your intestine has the bacteria necessary to kill the botulism spores in honey, so its ok as a pregnant person unless you have some other immune deficiency...

this is a real risk... this actually happened to a friend's baby- got botulism.. it was VERY scary- she was fine now- but it was unbelievable... they had NO idea about the honey thing.

Re: whats the deal with honey?
My doctor told me to stay away from the honey... and definetly not to give it the baby until he/she is at least two b/c of botulism

That is what my doctor said too. Except he said 1 yr old for the baby.
