What's the "usual" child support agreement?
We don't have a court ordered agreement with BM. We have managed to avoid doing that for some time but now she wants more money. I would much prefer we keep this out of the courts. I would like for DH to present her with a fair offer. Right now, he pays like $150/week for one teenage child and splits every other cost (sports, religion, braces, etc.). He also provides health insurance.
What would a court order? I know it's 17% but is that altered now that DH and I have a child?
If it is typically 17%, would the court also order that we split all other costs as well or would it be the 17% and that's it?

Re: What's the "usual" child support agreement?
I can only speak from my situation, but DH pays 17% of his gross income, half of all medical expenses, he pays for her medical insurance, half of extra curricular activities, half of braces, half of college, etc. when she was under age 13 he paid a certain amount each month to cover child care costs until age 13. This is all in addition to the 17% that he pays monthly. for us it does not change since we have a DC now

This is pretty much the same agreement that I know someone else has as far as child support goes with their ex. Having a child with you does not reduce his obligation, he will still have to pay 17% of his gross income. As far as the other things, that would likely depend on the judge/mediator agreement you come up with if you decide to go this route.

Re: What's the "usual" child support agreement?
Every case is different. DH got slammed because he made significantly more the two years prior to their divorce than he normally made (mostly lots of OT to stay OUT of the house ) so he pays a mortgage every month for two kids lol. However, she covers all healthcare costs, we are not obligated to pay half of extracurricular activities or anything of that sort.
They have a set formula to determine how much it would cost to raise a child according to income of the parents. That number is split (typically 60/40 or 70/30 - the higher number being the noncustodial parent). That's how it worked in our case.

I was trying to figure it out.
I did some research and it seemed to say it would be 17% of the COMBINED parental adjusted gross income. Is that true?

It is 17% of the combined income. Usually the extra stuff should be the same percentage( sports, religion, etc) but most parties usually agree to a 50/50 split on those.
ex/ So if father makes 65k and mother makes 35k. The total support for the child is 17K. Assuming the mother is the custodial parent, since father makes 65% of the combined income he is responsible for 65% of the 17K which is roughly 11K/yr or 921/mo basic child support.

Thanks for explaining that. We are trying to work this out without going to court so we are trying to be fair (although I have no idea how much she makes).
