Pick the name you like. Don't worry about popularity.
Without even knowing, I picked a girl and boy's name that made it #1 and #3 on the 2006 list.
Oh well, I thought I was original.
Madison is very pretty! Go for it!

Re: What's your opinion on really popular baby names?
I crossed names off our list cause of popularity.
I cringed when Rachel on friends named their daughter emma, i said to DH there goes our name...
Same with Emily, always loved that name, but it's too popular now, i still have deritives of emily on my list like Emilia, or Amelia though.
My DD Gianna, her name isn't popular yet here in CT, seems more popular on LI.
My name is MIchele, my mom spelled it with one "L", but growing up there was always another Michele in my class, and since my maiden name started with a Z, i was always Michele Z. and I HATED IT not to mention they always spelled my name wrong too!

I wouldn't let it change my mind.
Our dd is named Emily but even though it's super popular, we don't know of a SINGLE Emily in person?! So to us, it's not all that common.
I'd rather have a more common name anyway than one that's super far out there and always having to be correcting people with spelling, etc.
We plan to name baby #2 another popular name that we love.

Re: What's your opinion on really popular baby names?
I had a non-popular name growing up and I kind of liked that. But I don't know what it's like having more than one in your class in school, but it seems that Jennifer's (of our generation) roll their eyes to this very often. I was even in a grad class where 3 of 15 people (male and female) were Jennifer and you could see that they were used to it, but that it was frustrating.
But I also think, if you heart is set on it - go for it!
