Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
LOL Not only do I say Aunt XX and Uncle XX I say Cousin XX too. That's the way I grew up. I don't many 1st cousins but I have tons of 2nd cousins. they are mostly 15 plus years older than me. I feel wierd saying just their names, even though saying cousin XX is odd too. My kids will follow the same tradition.

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
I already answered but I have a little funny to add.. My sister was working for my dad and uncle for a few year a while back. We grew up always using "aunt" and "uncle" accordingly. When my sister was at work, she would refer to my uncle by his first name. I'm not really sure why, it was a family business in manufacturing, not really an "office" environment or a formal place at all! In fact, most of their customers were customers since my grandfather started the business over 50 years ago. I guess it was just easier to say Larry than uncle Larry! She still called my dad, "dad", even over the radio!!

Lol at the cosuin Freddy part b/c Fred is my Dh's name.
How can I explain this? My mother has about 35 1st cousins. She calls her couins by their first name. Her 1st cousins are my 2nd cousins and they are all around her age give or take. So for me to address thm only as their first name is wierd. I was brought up to say cousin XX; out of respect b/c they were older than me by far. Aunt wouldn't be proper b/c they weren't my AUnt's or Uncle's. KWIM? So to this day when I say something to my cousin I say Hey cousin Lucille, did you know...yada yada yada...Never just Lucille.
My mom's closet childhood friends I refer to as Aunt's and my childhood friends my children refer to as AUnts.

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
I was brought up to just call people by their first names, unless I was told otherwise.

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
I was raised to refer to my aunts/uncles as Aunt X and Uncle Y. My mother - who BTW is over 70 - still calls her living aunts Tia R**** & Tia M***. I expect DD will do the same when she starts speaking. My nieces and nephews refer to me as Aunt, and DH as Uncle.
I have noticed that my DH's nephews & niece refer to him by his first name only (although, funny enough one of them calls me aunt ).

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
Not a parent yet, but here's my take -
I always called my aunts and uncles Aunt (first name) and Uncle (first name), and DH did too. We plan to continue that when we have children.
But DH's nieces and nephews have been calling us just by our first names, and I really don't like it! I'm your aunt, not your contemporary or a family friend. We do try to get them to call us aunt and uncle and always sign cards that way, etc., but we don't see them very often (twice a year maybe?), so if SIL and BIL or MIL are letting them refer to us that way in our absence and that's what they're used to, there's not much we can do...

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
I was taught by my parnets that no child should ever call any adult by their first name.... since they 'outrank' them, KWIM? Either they are 'Uncle John' or they are 'Mr. Smith'.... they are never to call an adult 'John'.
we will do likewise....

Re: whats your take on aunts and uncles?
I call my aunts and uncles Aunt and Uncle first name. It seems weird to me to do anything other than that-the "aunt/uncle" part doesn't seem formal to me, it recognizes their "special" status.
Dd will call her aunts/uncles aunt and uncle. And my nieces and nephews will call me auntXXX.

'regards" is so cold, especially coming from niece/nephew.
