Re: Whats your take on DVD players in the car?
We got a portable one last year for a car trip to New Hampshire (4.5 hours). That is the minimum I will use it in the car. We are in the car traveling often, anywhere from 1-3 hours and I don't take it out.
I used it this weekend on the plane, its our last resort as far as distractions go, but it did come out.
I also used it in a restaurant this past weekend. We were on vacation, with my almost 3 year old son and almost 4 year old niece - my SIL and I BOTH have carry a "Barney" bag of crafts and small toys to keep them occupied, but there are sometimes when you get to were you just want to finish your meal thats when we pull out the DVD. They sit at the end of the table with it practically muted and we get to finish our meal. Trust me, I'm sure we got , but it would have been without it.
When my son was 9 months old he didn't watch a DVD in a restaurant or anywhere else

So what truck did you finally go with?? DId you get the Aspen??
I don't think its necessary for trips to the store but agree with everyone else that its great for longer trips.
We got the Nissan Armada. We checked out the Aspen and I didnt like the inside at all. It looked nicer online and my DH insisted that the GMC Acadia was to small .

Friends of ours have a portable DVD player that they take to restaurants to keep their son occupied/behaved.
No thank you! I'd much rather teach Ella how to behave in a restaurant then rely on a DVD player at all times.
Granted, I could see it being useful at times - like long car rides.
I saw a family at Houston's not to long ago with a daughter who was maybe 3 or so and they had the portable dvd. I don't get it. Their daughter was so good to begin with and it seemed like she was use to the whole scenerio also.

I think that was directed at me, so I'll just say, my friend's son WAS 9 months old when they took the DVD player in restaurant with us.
I can understand why they do it but I don't have to agree with it (any any age).

Re: Whats your take on DVD players in the car?
We have two - one for each car. Alex HATES the car, and we used to travel to NY often, but it burnt us in the end - now, anytime I get into the car with Alex, she cries over and over and over again "booovie booovie" (for movie), so we recently instituted a "one movie" rule

I agree with you. It would be good for long trips but for everyday use I wouldn't put it on.
I agree.

I guess I am in the minority but we use one everyday. We have a long commute and it keeps him occupied. It also keeps him awake (as Michelle said) If he naps in the car then he would never go to bed. It also keeps him from touching Jaidyn.
