When can they eat cold cuts?
Is there still a listeria risk when they are already on solids? When can they eat cold cuts?

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
Good question! I do not know, but I'll reply so your post gets bumped back up. I give DS cheese and have since he was about 8 or 9 months, but I'm not sure about other cold cuts.
My guess is after a year you probably can sometimes, but it's all pretty salty too, so I've been avoiding it.

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
I agree, good question...I've given it to DS but I feel weary about it for the salt, the "processed-ness" factor (I know, thats not word!)...but at the same time he doesnt seem crazy about them either so its not a big deal for us to avoid them.
I heard boars head sells a ham thats supposed to be preservative free, something like that. That might be safe...but I think there is still a salt factor w/that.

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
I never thought of the listeria risk, just all the bad things associated with nitrates and nitrites in cold cuts.

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
being a german/polish household, ham products abound
I think as soon as they have chewing down, and can eat bread w/o difficulty, they can eat coldcuts.
I will make the disclaimer that being from the 'fatherland', we're coldcut snobs... our stuff is made fresh at the butcher shop. we wouldn't feed them most supermarket hams/turkeys.... with the nitrates and that wierd gelatinous texture , you know nothing good is in there

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
I think that a little bit of turkey or ham is fine.
My DS doesn't really like meat, so he doesn't really eat it. But he loves grilled cheese with deli sliced cheese

Re: When can they eat cold cuts?
We started at about a year. Every once in a while we give her turkey or chicken cold cuts. she doesn't really enjoy them so it's only once every three weeks or so.
