I don't think I can handle it just yet. I'm so scared of him choking.
If it were up to him he'd be eating pizza right now.

You know what...he has to learn to move food to the back of his mouth and that is going to involve some choking, spluttering and gagging. Its all part of the process.

I KNOW! You are so good!
So - really - what kinds of food can I start him out on?
I really have NO CLUE about this.

The twins were eating everything except the kitchen sink at about 6 months!!!! Caden will be 6 months on the 20th of February....I just cant see me giving him what I used to give the twins...Ive gotten neurotic in my old age!!!!
Basically you start on little things and see how they handle it...I started adding pastina to DS foods to get him used to more texture...I'll "chunk it up" from there.

I remember you told me this and it did help me take the next step - I would suggest giving DC things you KNOW he can't possibly choke on, but still may gag - I gave him those jarred diced up little peaches and cut them up smaller - I figured they are so soft and slippery, there is no way they can get lodged in his throat even if he gags.
also - try giving him a puff. I have friends who were nervous and broke the puff into smaller pieces before giving - I gave him whole ones right away- but by the time it makes it to his throat its all soft and dissolved. I feel giving them to Cailen helped him understand how this whole eating thing works....
Also, giving him a hard bagel lets him chew and chew and chew, and eventually a disgustingly soft and wet piece will come out in his mouth and he can gum it a bit more and swallow it - Cailen LOOOVES this!!!
good luck!

Liza..I always say this because of what happened to me once with Noah...we went to babygroup and I was showing off to my friends giving him Gerber puffs (he was probably about 6 months) and he put one in his mouth, choked on it, and PROJECTILE vomited everywhere. I was soooo embarassed, I caught most of the vom in my mug of coffee anyway, right after he upchucked, he picked up another puff and kept bloody eating!!!! Ugh kids!!

I've heard you say this too and that's what gave me the guts to give Lucas puffs. For a while he had no interest. Then he met Maggie (Katedevine's doggy) and fell in love with the idea of feeding her. But...something clicked because after that he started eating them at home.
The first few times he gagged a little but now he eats them like a pro. I even started giving them to daycare for him to snack on.
