When DC (toddler age) is sick and they wake in the middle of the night
Do you go in to soothe them or let them go back to sleep on their own...Sorry for the stupid question, but it's the first time Chels has been sick and it affected her nightime sleep, and I KNOW for a fact if I go in it'll make it even worse...she just cried for 2 minutes and I literally was about to run in and she fell back asleep, I think the next time I"m going to go in and rock her..but the second I rock her it'll be her sleeping with me for the rest of the night

Re: When DC (toddler age) is sick and they wake in the middle of the night
Whenever DS is sick (very rare), I always take him into bed with us when he wakes up upset and crying. He's great at putting himself back to sleep when he's not sick, but when he's sick I want him to know we are there to comfort him.

Typically, I let him try to go back to sleep. But when he really doesn't feel well, he falls back asleep for 5-10 minutes then screams again. I will always soothe at this point. If it is a random few screams, I let it go. If it continues, or I know he needs help breathing, or a high fever, I go in.

If hes sick, I go in. If he is waking often when he is sick, I bring him into our bed.

I may bring her into our bed..the only problem is DH gets up at the crack of dawn to go to work., and don't want the alarm waking her

That's when we have slept on the recliner with him. If one of us has to go to work early, we try to stay away from alarms and go to a comfy chair. It has been extrememly rare that DS has slept in our bed. I think it has happened 2 times. I know one time DH woke up (when I was working an overnight) and DS was in the bed with him. And he doesn't even remember DS coming in!

If he's sick I go in & will pick him up & hold/rock him; or I'd go & give him Tylenol. On a normal night if he cries; I let him be & 9 times out of 10 he'll go off within a minute or two.

If he wakes up when he is sick I bring him to bed. Teething too. I just can't let him fuss when I know that he is in pain or miserable. That is probably why I have the world's worst sleeper.

Yes, I go in. DD would never sleep in my bed. Not because I wouldn't let her--I would love her to when she's sick or something. She doesn't fall asleep unless she's "contained" in a crib or car seat. But when she is sick, I will go in an hold her until she is very drowsy in my arms.

I'm like you, if I go in it ALWAYS makes it worse. If he wakes up and screams, or fusses, if I let him go for a minute chances are he'll go back on his own. On the very rare occasion that he doesn't calm down and he starts crying with "that cry", the one where I know something is wrong, then I go in. Give him motrin and rock him in the glider till he calms down than put him back in his crib. You'd think a kid that coslept in our bed for his first 10 months would be able to fall asleep in our bed but he can't, the minute he's in our bed he's wide awake and ready to play so I avoid that at all costs.

Same here. This has only happened twice in the past 18 months thankfully. One being yesterday. I knew somethign was wrong because she would settle down after a couple of minutes, then 5-10 minutes later she'd be screaming again. This went on a couple of times before I went in. I've NEVER brought her into bed though, until yesterday. I can't rock her because I have awful carpel tunnel in my right hand at 9 months pregnant and was afraid I'd drop her. Well, she was good in bed with us for about 15 minutes before she was playing and asking for Yo Gabba Gabba.....

Re: When DC (toddler age) is sick and they wake in the middle of the night
When my DC is sick I always either go in and check on them or they sleep in the room with either us or one of us will sleep in their room. I would be afraid their fever would spike in the middle of the night and I wouldn't know it if I didn't go in at the very least and check.
