When did you add your baby on your insurance?
How soon after you had your baby did you add him/her? I know that babies are covered for 31 days by law on insurances. so when do I add her on?

I couldn't add him until I had his birth certificate.

Re: When did you add your baby on your insurance?
They are NOT covered for 30 days by any law. I'm in HR and do benefits. You have 30 days to add your baby to your plan but if you do not they will bounce any claims they have paid and the baby will not be covered.
You should call your insurance company and/or employer as soon as you can after the baby is born to find out what the procedure is. It might not be a bad idea to do it before hand too. That way you can fill out all the routine information and have the form ready to go.

That is what I did so they knew that DS had to be added and as soon as I had his social security # & birth certificate they were able to add him.

Re: When did you add your baby on your insurance?
We had all the paperwork filled out before DS was born so all DH had to do was hand it in with a copy of DS's birth certificate. He was covered under me in the hospital and at the pharmacy for any medications we needed to get him.

You have 30 days to do it.
You will have to call your insurance. We did right away WITHOUT the birth certificate. They noted all the information. We gave them a copy of his birth certificate when we got it.

Re: When did you add your baby on your insurance?
Well I have automatic coverage for my child for the first 30days for the hospital and wellness visit (1st visit) But after a lil research we realized it was far cheaper to put her on my hubby's insurance.
So just last week (nearly one MONTH after birth) he finally got confirmation from Oxford that she's on HIS insurance.
I have.. No birth certificate No SS# I have a new baby info paper from hospital.

Re: When did you add your baby on your insurance?
According to my insurance policy, I need to notify them something like 48 hours after birth.
I also have a $500.00 co-pay for the hospital visit.
I called my insurance co. (Oxford) for the specifics because I don't want any surprises.
Everything for the baby is covered at the hospital.
I expect to get some random bills though I will need to "fight" over. Gotta love our wonderful healthcare system.
