Re: when did you stop sterilizing bottles/pacifiers?

When DD was a newborn I sterilized them once a week.

I would say around 3 months old I stopped altogether. Now I sterilize her bottles only if she is sick.

after the first time when I took it out of the package! My ped said it is not really necessary with plastic bottles today! That was when it was all glass! All you need is soap and water!

I only sterilized the first time. After that, they went in the dishwasher after each use. For pacifiers, they go in the dishwasher occasionally, maybe 1x a week or if it falls on the floor (DS is 15 months)

After a week..........it was a PITA and not necessary. Warm soapy water is fine. After a few weeks we switched to Playtex Drop Ins and after we sterilized the nipples once we never did it again.

i do it every time.... we don't have a dishwasher and i know that the water i use is hot - but not hot ENOUGH... i just use the munchkin sterilizer bags...it takes an additional 90 seconds. not a big deal to me!

The second you take the bottles out of the sterilizer bag and it hits the air it's no longer sterile. Do you keep them in the bag until you use them? I had the Born Free Sterilizer and they were sterile as long as they were in the hot sterilizer but as soon as I removed the bottles to put them away technically they were no longer "sterile". That's why it seemed like a waste to me to even bother. Another reason I love the Drop Ins though...........a clean, new liner every time. Chat Icon

i know that...but before - emma had a white tongue (not thrush) - but just a formula white tongue. once i started doing the sterilizing - it went away and she hasn't had it since!

once i take them out of the bag - i put the bottles together and get the water in them (or at least seal them off).

Re: when did you stop sterilizing bottles/pacifiers?

I never did - ever.

And DD has never had an infection, fever or any kind of illness -- just 3 colds in her 2 and a half years so far (knock wood). She has actually only thrown up once and that was because she ate too much!

I only used the dishwasher to wash my stuff on a sanicycle. I used it until they were done with bottles at 1 yr old.

The first time and then I boiled stuff when she was sick the first time. Now if I think of it, I'll boil nipples weekly.

Stuff never goes in the dishwasher (mine sucks royally) so I always handwash.
