when did your dc drop their naps?

I was thinking of enrolling 3yo ds in camp 2x/wk from 10-2 but he usually takes an afternoon nap at 1:30p now for 1.5-2 hours and doesn't look like he'll be dropping it yet. I feel so guilty sending ds to summer camp but 1yo dd otherwise gets no alone time with me. And I was thinking it's only twice a week so maybe it won't be too bad for ds? I know every kid is different but I'm wondering if 3.5yo would be too young to give up naps? What would you do?

My DS dropped his nap the summer he turned 4. He was out running all day, and was too excited to settle down and rest. Putting him down for a nap meant taking him away from all the fun and new-found freedom he had outside. He wasn't having it.

He gave up naps on his own. The same may happen with your DS once the summer comes. Or he might go down at 2:30 for a shorter nap.

I had a very crabby almost-4 year old for several weeks once dinner time came, but he adjusted.

I would find a different camp, maybe one that does 9-12 so you can keep nap time. I wouldn't be in a hurry to lose a nap.

I'm so conflicted! Now I have relatives telling me how ds should be in school the whole day because he's already 3.5yo by the time summer comes etc etc....

DS dropped them in January at three and a half.

2.5 my twin boys dropped their naps. I think it's because they end up playing with each other and forget about sleep.
If we need them to nap they will always sleep in the car, so we take them for a drive.
If grandma puts them for a nap at her house they go to sleep.

My DD will be 5 soon and she is just dropping her nap ( she slept from 1-4) my DS is 1 1/2 and he sleeps from 1 -3:30. I plan to keep the nap as long as possible. My DD was home with my mom until she began part time preK at 4 yrs old. A 31/2yr old certainly does not need to attend FT preschool.

We dropped at 3. If he napped he was going to bed too late. With no nap, he sleeps a solid 12 hours at night. Camp is fun, I wouldn't feel guilty. I feel guilty because we aren't doing camp this year.

My DD started giving them up around 3y3m. By 3.5 yrs old she was done.

My DS is 3 and he takes a nap about 1/2 the time. If we are busy on certain days and he doesn't take one he's fine....he will probably just go to bed a bit earlier.

I would right before he started kindergarten, a month before his 5th bday. But he would still take naps sometimes on the weekend or when he was off from school. Actually he's 6 and took a nap last weekend before we went to a party.

With that said I would let your DS go to camp if you want. My DS was in daycare and he would take naps 50% of the time there but would still always take naps at home around that age.

Thanks for sharing everyone. Ds's camp is supposed to be 10 weeks.... It's only 2x/wk but the 4 hour stretch I'm worried is really long. He gets totally pooped out if he goes to my parents for 3 hours already. I think that extra hour is really stretching it for him....But at the same time I wonder if it'll also be good prep for kindy too. I don't want to overexhaust ds but I don't want to understimulate him too. Decisions decisions!

DS1 was 3.5 and DS2 will be a little earlier (he just turned 3 and only naps at daycare for an hour tops).

My twin dds stopped napping around 2, when put in their room they just laughed and talked to each other while in their cribs so I didn't bother anymore
