When did your DC REALLY get the chewing down?
Jack is good on puffs. Sometimes they will get to the back of his tongue and he will cough until they go down.
He has mastered the Zwiebacks.
The other day I gave him pieces of pancake at IHOP. He was ok - and then kind of looked like he had no idea what to do with it.
Am I expecting him to chew these foods too soon? He will be 8 months next week.

just now really-8 months on the dot. i break up pancakes small and she wolfs them down. i started puffs a 5 months though so this is a long time coming! ironically though she is not great with the zwiebaks or biter biscuits. she bites off these huge pieces and scares me!

Re: When did your DC REALLY get the chewing down?
i just posted on another thread, our ped says try and if they dont like it just wait, that all babies are different, and most table foods are not interesting in taste for them enough to want them till 10-11 months..that they will try to eat anything but not like it so much.
Plus certain foods dont taste well "gummed"...
I think your doing fine.....just do what your doing now and add to it.

I agree with Donna.
Christopher is a good chewer, he takes tiny little bites and does good with it. I have no idea when that started, but I know he was doing it when he was just about 9 months.

we had to work on it too. When all your babies were eating puffs , noah was choking on them. Now, hes a pro. he chews them so well and doesnt open his mouth for more, till hes alld one. But he wasnt ready when the others were.

Re: When did your DC REALLY get the chewing down?
By 8 months, Ava was completely on table food, but it takes a long time, in my opinion, for them to master chewing. By a year old, I was able to give her a whole chicken finger or a big piece of apple, etc. and she could bite off a piece and chew it. It's a skill that takes time to develop and a lot of practice.

Logan is really good with most things.
(In fact I usually need to give him one piece at a time because he will shove all the pieces in there at once.)
Today was the first day he really gagged on stuff.
