WHen did your DC say their first real word
And really know that they were saying the right thing? Not like looking at a ball and saying "Mama"
Jack hasn't said anything yet (12 months) and I just want to hear him say SOMETHING.
Curious when other kids started to talk
ETA: What was the first word?

9 mos here too. But DS is a big talker. He still babbles a lot too though. It is almost like a mix of languages...among all the jibberish a word or two will come out clearly.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
Thing is - Jack doesn't shut up lol - all day long "ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! AH!" but that's it.
My ped said if he doesn't say anything by 15 months we will call EI. I'm fine with that and welcome anything to help him along - I just want to hear his little voice!!!!!

Abby was right around her 1st birthday. I believe she said "Dada" correctly in context....of course, she had "said" that before but like you said, while looking at a ball or something!
My older DD was earlier...9-10 mos. maybe. She said "clock."

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
My DD#2 is almost 12 months and says mama and dada but not really to us, although I think she knows I am mama. Her one 'real' work is book which she associates correctly all the time. I am really hoping for more words soon, but Im not worried at this point.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
Lucas is doing the same "ah ah ah" a lot but the ped said not to worry because each child develops differently. By 18 months he said he wants to hear words from Lucas. The fact that he points to things and then babbles is a good sign.
Lately I've been hearing him try out his voice when he's in the car. He sticks with words he knows...like Dada or Mama...and tries to expand on them. He'll say it in different tones and then laugh...then try again...he'll start with dada..then da...then dad...and then laugh.
He has just recently started to repeat some things but it's more like the sound of them...UP is his favorite to try to repeat but he won't say it independently yet...just copies when we say it.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
Thomas said "up" for a few days around 10 months, but then stopped saying it.
At 14 months, he started saying real words consistently, but just a few. He says mama and dada now in the right way. He says Elmo and ball, CONSTANTLY. Ball is anything round - tomato, apple, etc. Elmo is any Sesame Street character! He also says yes and hi.
He is 15 months today. I'm sure he will have a word explosion soon!
Don't worry - Jack will start soon!

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
My son is a late talker, we went to see a Speech Therapist this week and she told me that there is a correlation between children who are physically walking early to late talking, she told me that because he is a late talker, everything that he would normally do at certain ages is going to be slightly delayed. She told me that he seemed completely normal, but just delayed. He probably started talking closer to 21-23 months. He is 30 months now, and he is constantly coming up with new words every day! Its great.

Nothing yet -- but I also expect her speech to be slightly delayed because of the 2 languages. I am fine with that.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
I posted a couple of months ago that I was concerned about DS b/c it seemed like all the other LIF babies were saying so many more words. My word of advice, dont compare him to the other kids. They all develop at their own pace.
DS went from saying "ba ba" (which was the only word he really associated with his bottle) around 13 mo. or so to a whole list or words now at 15 1/2 mo. I did a lot of research on how I could help his vocabulary and one thing that seemed to help was constantly talking to him, asking him questions, responding to him when he babbles (even when you dont understand what he's saying). I sing to him the ABC's and other songs. I also have quiet time when I make sounds or say words and try to get him to repeat or immitate them.

Great advice thank you. I feel like I say the same things over and over and over again. How many times a day can I say "Ba - Ball!" lol - he is obsessed with balls. He will say "Ba" when I ask him what a ball is - or when he wants it he says "ba" but never "Ball" -- I also repeat a ton of other words daily! I'll just keep at it. I know the word explosion happens closer to 18 months - and it's easy for me to tell friends not to worry when their children aren't talking - but unfortunately when it's your kid you always question yourself.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
DS started saying 'done' around 9 1/2 months when he was finished eating, but that stopped after about a week. He also started saying 'up' around 10 months. He does repeat other words, but that's different.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real world
I think you mean "word"..not "world " right?
Noah says Mama...thats it and while he says it to me, he does also say it randomly.
My ped said by 15 months she would like to see 3-5 words.
Hes 13 and 1/2 months now.
Im nto worried in the least, because he takes a lot and the tone is always appropriate for the situation. Plus I saw my SIL and others worry over my niece who didnt say ANYTHING AT ALL till 19 months and now at 23 months she doesnt shut up and pronounced everything perfectly.
I know some say 9 months etc, but I for one have never heard anyone that young talk, but Im sure they do, I just think its not the norm at all.

We are in the same boat. LOTS of talking. A few dadda, daddy, hey but they are random and with no association (except "hey" for hi).
