DD is just about at 300 words, so by 15 months I'm sure she'll hit that 305.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
DS was right about 13 months. I used to say I couldn't wait until he started talking, but now that he can call me in the middle of the night or when I put him in bed breaks my heart (since we do CIO). They are so sweet. Every baby is different. I'm sure you'll hear those first words before you know it..

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
I would say about 10 months old, but only like 2 words. He isnt a big talker yet, but my ped siad that as long as he is understading its fine. That's the most important thing.
Also DS has been walking really well sine he was 9 months old at 1 year old he was able to run. I read that some babies develop their motor skills faster than others while other babies develop thier verbal or communicative skills faster than ohter.
Also at around 10 months old, if i asked DS to bring me a certain toy, he was able to understand me and he would bring it to me when asked.
As the old saying goes all babies are different.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
All kids are different...
My eldest daughter had a few words before she was a year old...hi & light. But she didnt walk until she was almost 15 months. Incidently she is my child who has Down SYndrome. Go figure.
The twins were talking super super early. They were incredible. They even surprised their pediatrician. Im not going into details but they were saying words at 6 months.
Caden....hmmmmm....he does say Mama & Dada and I know he is saying it to us but he also says it just in general. He said "up" pretty consistantly there for about a week but I havent heard that again so now Im questioning it. It's hard for me not to be concerned b/c my older kids were talking already.
When it comes to Caden I just have to remind myself of the advice I give to others that babies all develope at different rates. Usually they work on one skill, master it then move on to another. So maybe they are working on walking first...then the words will come..KWIM?

DD is 10 months and she babbles a lot. She does say Dada - but hasn't really associated it yet.
She does say "hi" and waves to people when she sees them - especially our cat!! She sees him and goes "hiiii-eee" and waves..it's too cute

He will say "Ba" when I ask him what a ball is - or when he wants it he says "ba" but never "Ball"
I'm a speech pathologist and I would most definitley count that as a word!! The articulation doesn't need to be perfect, but as long as he is consistently saying the same thing (whether it's just an approximation of the word or perfectly pronounced) then it's a word!

At 11 months that was the girls first real word - I wasn't sure, but it progressed, eventually into "ball." And they'd point to it or go get it, so that's how I knew.
By this age it is more important that you tell him to go get the ball, or ask him where the dog is and he points, rather than him verbalizing.
Hang in there, he will be a chatterbox before you know it. We wished for them to start talking, and some days, well, let's just say I look forward to the quiet.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
DD is 11 months and babbles all the time...she said "mama" and "Dada" since about 9 months...
Now, she'lll say "doh" for dog and "enna" for Elmo. She'll also point her fingers and say "da" (that) if she wants us to tell her what something is...

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
Cailen said more at 9-10 months, but he said specific words functionally. Now he says fewer "words" but "talks" a lot more to communicate - more jargony type talk, but I guess it comes easier to him since he is trying to say more....He is 15 mts old now...

Not like looking at a ball and saying "Mama"
I don't remember when Emma started saying mama to get my attention. I know it was before a year. It's in the baby book which I'm too lazy to look at. I would say the past 2 months she has picked up a lot more. She says bubbles pretty good, papa, brother, tries nicholas, mey mey for both blankie and milk , uh oh, baaa for boo and ba for ball, oh and ruff ruff when I ask what a doggie says
My new thing is.."Emma raise your hand if you want more milk" (or whatever she has) and she does it
It will come soon and then you'll want duct tape to make them stop Nicholas talks NON STOP. I guess he's making up for no talking until he was 2!

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
My DD will be 18 months on the 31st and still doesnt say anything.
She will be getting an evaluation after she turns 18 months to see if she qualifies. She understands everything I say to her so thats good. I feel bad for her. First is was EI for PT now she might have to have speech.

Re: WHen did your DC say their first real word
Christopher said uhoh early, like 8 months or so.
He talks constantly know and expects people to understand But right now, he really UNDERSTANDS what you say to him and he uses things in context, knows the ball is the ball, up is up, etc, etc.
