When do you start to use a sound machine?
First night home or when they are a few months or so? Do you leave it on all night, or shut off after asleep. When they are still waking to eat, do you leave it on while you feed baby, change baby, etc.?
Thanks!

Re: When do you start to use a sound machine?
We use the sound machine by Homedics that everyone recommends.
I wish we started earlier. Started using it at 9 months when his top teeth finally came in and he still wouldn't STTN (b4 that he did STTN starting around 4 months). someone on here recommended it. We tried 2 nights of CIO with the sound machine and have been using it every night since. DS is 22 months old.
We have a house with hard wood floors so it can get loud. I also brought it on vacation with us since we had a timeshare. Put DS to sleep in the room with the machine on (for an hour) and then DH and I had dinner and watched TV in the next room. Not sure when or if I'll ever stop using it Maybe he'll bring it with him to college

Pretty much since we had her start sleeping in her crib- which was just under 6 months old.

Re: When do you start to use a sound machine?
Day 1 we started using it. I don't always have it on for feedings but that last night feeding I do put it on the heartbeat sound...DD is 8.5 mos old and I still use this. For some reason though I then switch it to white noise sound for sleep...I use it at naptime too.

I've been using it since day 1. I turn it on as I am putting him down since he tends to stir a bit. It goes off by itself.

around 3m when I started sleep training, and it also seemed he became more aware of noise all around him.

Thanks everyone!
I never used one with DS#1, but I'm definitely going to try it with DS#2.

We've been using it since 6 weeks, but only for daytime naps -- not overnight.
