When does your company let you know if they are closing for snow?
Just curious.
We have an 800# to call, but I have no clue when the actual "decision" is made.

Last week was around 6:30am that morning. They have now implemented a plan that they will notify us by 6am that morning.

I feel like this is a great idea, and would work for the office jobs, but we have overnight manufacturing shifts, so it could get tricky.

I had a Dr. appt scheduled for tom evening and they already called me yesterday to reschedule b/c of the snow, lol.

I wish! We got the closure notice at 905 that morning...after some people already came in. I wasn't coming in anyway because there was no LIRR service.

For that blizzard we had on the Monday after Christmas I think they sent out an email at like 7 am or something.
I have a Blackberry, so I can see my emails at all times.
ETA_ regardless I am not going in if it snows bad. I can work from home- I will just text my boss in the AM to let him know.

unfortunately not even a sick snowstorm gets us a snowday... everyone that didnt make it in is being docked...

Thats how it works if they don't close. They closed once last year and then 1/2 day another. The day they closed, NO ONE in my dept. was informed, but I was the ONLY one who showed up. Fockers.

i think if we were a different type of business they would have closed the office... but there were events that took place that night so they said no to letting everyone have the day...
1 person from my 12 person department showed up... they are being completely unreasonable on this...

We don't close (at least in the non external client facing departments), pretty much all the employees can work from home. If for some reason our systems get overloaded we have a priority list for who gets remote access.

Hahaha, I was going to say same here....then I realized why it was the same! Hi Kristen!
And anyway, we never close anyway...we've had one early closure and one delayed opening in the 7 years I've been there.

The University has a line for students/staff to call that will relay what is open/closed.
However, if staff is unable to drive in for safety reasons, they can opt to call in, but must use personal/vacation accruals.

They don't.
No one showed up on 12/27 so the company decided to give us the day.
The ONLY other time we closed for snow was back in January 1996. They started to call people but the owner got mad and told them to stop in case someone wanted to come in. I think 5 people showed up that day...3 were owners and the other 2 lived nearby. There was debate about charging people for the day if they didn't come in but relented in the end.
I swear, we are worse then the NYC Board of Ed.

my company never closes, I always have to take a day b/c my apartment complex doesn't clear the parking lot until the storm is over
