When is the BEST time to do homework?
Im probably over thinking this.... to be honest Im not even sure he'll get homework in Kindergarten- but I would like to establish a good routine ASAP.
So- do we do homework as soon as we get off the bus (and then when he is done, he can play outside, watch some TV or whatever)
OR
Do we come home, relax, play eat dinner and then do homework...
In my head- I would like to get it done with and out of the way ASAP, but on the other hand I feel like after being in school all day he needs some "play time" too...

I "think" I am going to let him come home, eat a snack and then bang out the homework before he starts to play..

We do homework right after school. It's consistent that way, and not rushed before bed or sports or whatever is going on that night.

Damien had homework 2 nights a week in kindergarten. I would do it with him after dinner. I really had no choice because as soon as I get home from work I make dinner. My Mom watches him after school and he hates homework so it's not fair to make her do it with him. I don't think he would be at all productive if he had to do it as soon as he came home.

I think it depends on the child . Some need to decompress before starting HW. My kids do it immediately after school because we have sports 4 nights a week and religion the other night and get home way too late to attempt it after dinner.

DS had a lot of homework in Kindergarten! I think it was best if he came home, got changed (he wears a uniform), and then plays or does whatever. I would make him do his HW before dinner and then that way he would have a little time after dinner to settle down before bed.

When Rob is home, this is how it is done. If we are both working, then they usually try to get it done in aftercare - otherwise it's done while I'm cooking supper.

For us it depends on the days activities. Sometimes it is right after school and sometimes it is after dinner.
Also, when Jordan was in Kindergarten they used to give us the weeks homework on Mondays(a packet) and you could do it when you wanted and hand it all in on Fri. This was great because if she was having a good day, then we would do more and if she was having a bad day, we would skip and catch up the next day.

DS comes home from school and has an half hour to eat a snack and relax then it's home work time. After dinner would be too late for us since DS like to take his time with his h.w.
Also Kindergarten will most likely have some homework. When DS was in K he got a packet of work (like 5 pages) on Monday and he would have to do one page a day and turn it in on Friday.

us too. Right after school my dc do their homework. They can eat a snack and have a drink. But then its right to homework. I know if they dont do it right away, they are not going to want to do it later on. lol.

My preference is to have them do their homework before playing.
BUT given that my kids play time is in the afterschool program, they play first & do their homework or do it when they get home so I can go over it with them.
