when moving out of a place....

do you paint the walls?

what if you painted them when you moved in?

i painted two walls. i wasnt planning on painting them because A) i dont have a match of the color they were before and B) by law the landlord has to paint them before the next tenants move in anyway

but generally i think ppl do, so i was just hoping for opinions.

i know i am going to spackle any holes from photos ive hung up.

Re: when moving out of a place....

only if i painted them a color other than something neutral. (i.e., red, green, etc) is the landlord going to penalize you, or deduct any $$ from your security deposit for having to repaint any "odd" colored walls? if so, then i'd probably throw a neutral color like beige over them.

Re: when moving out of a place....

isnt the landlord supposed to have it freshly painted anyway for the new tenants?

if so, then dont...But ask your landlord.

Re: when moving out of a place....

check your lease- at my last place if we painted the walls- we had to return them to the orginal color

dark colors are harder to cover- and you might get charged

In our lease it says we have to return the walls back to that nasty apaertment white. (not in those words) I asked the maintance guy if I bought the primer would that be fine. He said yes. I will plug up any nail holes and what not.

I have never done that- I always pay the rent and then get my security back

he could sue you in small claims court I guess

Re: when moving out of a place....

Check your lease. If it's not in your favor, then see if you can arrange something with the landlord.

Our lease says that we can paint the walls but they have to be painted back to white if it's any color other than neutrals or pastels.

Our old apartment lease said we had to paint them back to white, but the new tenants loved the colors so they asked that we keep them. We just primed one room that they were going to paint a different color than what we had.
