Re: when selling a home -realtor question
4% has been what i have found as standard. they split it 2% to the selling realtor, 2% for the buyers realtor.
others will ask more, but you can bargain wtih them.

almost everyone quoted us 4% (it was more 5-6% 5-6 years ago)
FSBO says you on commission, BUT buyer's agents may not take their clients to show your house b/c they will not receive any money from the deal. i think that you can do a FSBO, but offer 2% to the buyer's agent. - but that comes down to $8000 for a $400K house. I'm not sure it's worth the agita of doing everything yourself.

Re: when selling a home -realtor question
I am a Realtor. Most realtors charge 4%. 2% to the listing agent, and 2% to the agent bringing in the buyer. Don't risk trying to sell your home by yourself-especially in this market! No question that 4% is a lot of money, but the benefits are worth it. You'll get listed on MLS. This not only means thousands of agents will be accessing your info, but hundreds of other sites(Realtor.com, Zillow, virtually all the local real estate agency websites, etc.) pick up the info on your house from MLS. Working with a Realtor will also give you the benefits of a professional who knows what needs to be done and when. Real estate isn't rocket science, but there are things you need to know. Learned lessons in real estate can be costly. There are other reasons to use a Realtor too. Ask your friends, neighbors and family for recommendations and then interview a few of them. Best of luck!

Re: when selling a home -realtor question
We sold our house in January and paid 4%. My realtor was worth every penny. She sold our house in 44 days at an open house.

Re: when selling a home -realtor question
4%, but we negotiated 3.5% if we sold within 60 days.

Re: when selling a home -realtor question
4% is standard and fair. Don't pay more than that.
