When should babies be out of the infant seat...

DS is 8 months and is still in it. Is that bad?

Also do they have to be 20lbs when you turn the car around or do it after they turn one. They say whichever happens first. So if at 12 months DS is not 20lbs can I still have him facing forward?

I don't remember what they are exactly. But the infant carseat instructions should tell you the length and weight requirements.

I would keep him in their as long as possible. DS was almost 8 months when we took him out and I miss it. He also needs to be a min. of 20lns and a year to face him forward and for that you need a convertible car seat. The infant seat can not be used for that. I plan on turning DS around when baby #2 comes and he will be about 15 months then. They are the safest in the rear facing position and if he has a tiny frame to begin with I would just keep him the way he is.

My Graco SnugRide says 29 inches and 22lbs. DD was 10 months when I switched. I didnt want to give it up b/c I loved it, but she was just too big for it.
As for forward facing, he has to be at least 1 year old, it's the safest for him anyway and you should not turn him before that.

They should be out of it when they hit the height or weight limit for your particular car seat. They have to be rear facing until a year. It is safer for them rear facing and should be done as long as possible if they can fit that way.

Jordana was also 8 months when we took her out- and only because her winter clothes didn't let her fit in there anymore. I want to see if she still fits in there for our flight to Florida in 2 weeks.

I definitely do not plan on switching him around right now. He is still rear facing because it is safe for him.

My question is when he turns 1 and is not yet 20lbs can he still face forward?

They have to be 1 and 20 lbs, so both you have to meet both conditions before you can turn them around, so if he is 1 and still not 20 lbs, then you have to wait until he is 20 lbs.

ok so if he outgrows the infant seat (DS is 28 and a half inches) and I have to install the convertible carseat I have to still make it face the rear?

Yes, babies should face rear in any seat as long as possible, but the minimum would be when they are a year and 20 lbs. Both requirements have to be met.

I moved both my kids out of the infant seat at 4 and 5 months old. They both moved to a rear-facing Marathon. They were just big babies overall and too heavy in the infant carrier, not to mention sqooshed!

we did the same...Sydney has been in the marathon since she was 4 months old, rear facing ofcourse, and we LOVE it! so roomy and she is sooo much happier in it! She is a big baby, and long too and the infant seat just didnt look comfy anymore.

If he is one and not 20 lbs yet - I wouldn't turn him around unless his feet are hitting the back seat and he is uncomfortable. I would keep him rear facing as long as possible.

I don't know if I need to loosen the straps or not. They seem tight. Or maybe he's getting to too tall for the infant seat...

well you can tell my dh and I are new parents... we didnt even think to take the padding out... once we did that it definitely couldve bought us more time cause it gave her a nice amount of room but we decided to put her in the new seat anyway.

Maybe it's the heavy layers he's got on since it's winter and all.

I took that padding thing after like 5 months. When I did I was like "why didn't I do that sooner"...LOL

We had to take Ava out of the infant carrier at like 4.5 months because she was way too long for it. My ped. told me that if their feet hang over the edge of the infant carrier, it's time to switch.

My friend was at BRU today with her 8 month old and the car seat sales person saw her DD's feet dangling over the edge and told her it was time to get a new one.
