Re: When starting Clomid
RE-RE-RE !!!!!!....I would hate to see someone make the same mistake I did- Felt comfortable with my Gyn. and wasted 7 valuable months not being properly monitered on Clomid-only to go to an RE anyway and conceive my DS within 3 months (Clomid/IUI) of seeing them...We are tring for #2 now, and again seeing an RE ...Good Luck !

Re: When starting Clomid
RE here as well. I would get to an RE ASAP if you're going the clomid route--- they'll most likely monitor you more closely than an OB/GYN would ... GL!!!

Re: When starting Clomid
Definitely an RE!! Ob/gyn's are just too busy or inexperienced with truly knowing how to treat with clomid. My gyno wouldn't put me on it herself, she sent me to an RE right away, which I am very grateful for. You need to be monitored while on clomid with bloodwork and sonograms. Clomid can also dry up your CM and may effect your lining, all things an RE is experienced to handle. I look at RE's vs. Ob/gyn's this way: an RE's goal is to GET you pregnant, an ob/gyn is to take care of you WHILE you are pregnant.

Re: When starting Clomid
I say RE also. I started Clomid with my regular OB and he didn't monitor me, take blood, nothing. He had no idea if it was working or not! He would just give me the pills, tell me when to take them, and then tell me to just "try" and then when I got AF he would have me come in again and start all over!

Re: When starting Clomid
I have been taking clomid for the last 3 months. My ob/gyn has given them to me. He has me come in on day 10 of my cycle for a songram then another sonogram on day 12. Then he would do bloodwork 2 weeks later. Now I am nervous. Maybe I should have been going to an RE. He said if I don't conceive this month then he'll send me to an RE that he works closely with .

Re: When starting Clomid
Definately a RE!
While, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my OB, I wasn't monitered while on Clomid. She would have me take it, then POAS OPK when it was + she would do the IUI in her office. After 3 months of that, we moved to the RE, only to find out that my +OPKs were always false positives and I was O'ing much later than the positive on the OPK.

ok how does one make sure they are not getting false positives?

Since I was being carefully monitored by the RE. Once I get +OPK, I would go in the following morning for bloodwork and a sono. We found every time I got a +OPK, I had no growth of follicles and my bloodwork would show I was no where near O'ing. That's why it's important if you are on Clomid, that you are closely monitored by the RE.

Re: When starting Clomid
I agree with the RE. I started with my OB and wasted about 5 months. They did do bloodwork to check my dosage and increased it as necessary, but that was the extent of it. I moved on to the RE and they monitor much more.
The reason you can get a false + with the clomid is b/c it is a hormone. My RE does a sono on about day 12 to be sure there are follies growing. Once they know they are there they have me use the OPK to look for my surge.
ETA: one reason not to waste too much time is that my RE told me you are supposed to be limited to 12 cycles with Clomid in a lifetime due to increased risk of ovarian cancer if you take it too much.

Re: When starting Clomid
DEFINITELY see an RE. I refer to Clomid as "The Big Guns". You need to be closely monitored when taking it. This past cycle, I went for 3 rounds of bloodwork and 3 sonos, so that I knew EXACTLY when I would O. A regular GYN office will most likely not monitor you as closely.
Also, Clomid has a max. of 12 cycles that you can use it--so you really don't want to "fool around" when you're on it. JMO.
