Usually- I tend to be an alarmist and think I'll be snowed in for days. But usually at some point my rational side takes over and I realize that we're probably ok. The main priorities are milk for my DD and food for the pets.

nope..i deal with what i have in the house. If it's something I need like milk then I go out b/c I don't have any in the house. I don't make an extra effort to run to the store with the rest of the million people who go to stock up.

we get enough basics to have in the house- but we dont stock pile.
DH went to the store to get a few things, and everything was pretty much picked through!
people are insane!

Never...there hasn't been a storm on LI in my lifetime that I wasn't able to run to the store during or after to get something I might need.

unfortunately, we were "due" for food shopping this weekend  . We were at BJs on Saturday morning with about 4700 other people

I just make sure I have enough soda otherwise there's no food run going on. I think during the worst storm in the area, I was unable to get out one day in 30+ years.

No!! I am always pretty well stocked or at least can get through with what I have! For my kids, I will double check they have enough milk, becuase they go through a gallon every 2-3 days!

No. I usually try to AVOID the supermarkets when there's a big storm supposedly on the way, because there's always a mob scene.

never...in fact Friday is my usual grocery shopping day, and when I pulled into the parking lot I couldn't figure out why it was SO crowded...and then it hit me...Storm shoppers!

When they say a storm is coming...I usually will make sure I have enough milk and half and half...other than that, I usually have what I would need to last me a day or two. I don't shop as if it's going to be the last time I'll ever get to the grocery store...

I went on Saturday because it is my normal day. I really didn't "need" anything but maybe some milk BUT how many days do these people think they are going to be stuck inside?
Even for the storm in 1996 where we got 2 feet, which the stores were horrendous because we used to go shopping on Sundays and the storm came that night into Monday, I was out of the house by Tuesday to go to work and my dh actually drove around that Monday so we were not stuck in the house if we really needed anything!!

I also agree with this. Plus, we always have enough food for a few days. A week if we really had to stretch things.

Nope. I go food shopping once a week and usually will have enough stuff in the house to get me through a few days. I always wonder why it is that people go crazy getting stuff - when was the last time anyone got snowed in for 3 or 4 days?

only if I have plans to go anyway
but since I live in NYC- you can always find an open chinese or diner that will deliver even in a bad storm- so no reason to panic- just have cash on hand!
